    Autism Debate

I have a question about this whole Autism crisis that says 1 in 150 kids get Autism -- some people say that the vaccines are to blame -- but I have my own theory about this.

Women are waiting longer to have their first child, so couldnt that be a factor in why we have a rise in Autism?

I mean really the vaccines havent changed much but the age of women having their first child has -- so it leads me to believe that age of the parents could be a factor in this -- I am not trying to make anyone mad or anything like that.

I work in Pediatrics, and it is becoming more noticeable that it is clearly older Moms, I dont know, its just a theory, or maybe its just one factor in why it happens. One factor that no one seems to be noticing. Out of all the calls we have gotten for the diet that Jenny McCarthy put her kid on -- average age of Mom at birth of Autistic kid was 36.

Of course this is not a scientific theory or study, just my own

Personally and this is just my opinion but the more food environmental toxins a mother takes in the more likely the child will develop autism. That along with genetics and if the child has other problems. So if the parent is older the more toxins in stored in the body and will pass on to the child.

If you Google, causes of autism, it sounds like the medical community hasn't the first nor foggiest what the hell causes it.

You know, you might have a point. I know a woman who has an autistic child and that child is over 10 years younger than her other two. She is on a tirade against vaccinations because she believes that is what causes it, but she was in her late 30's when she had him.

It doesn’t prove it but whos to say that the build up of toxins don’t interact destructly with the vaccaniations therefor giving a more probablity on the end result? We all look for patterns and to say it doesn’t imply is wrong. Or was this just an attempt to look smart?

    Re: Autism Debate

Im a parent of a "high functioning" autistic child, and Im the aunt of a severely austic niece. I was barely 30 when I had my son, my second child (of three) and my sister was 19 when she had her daughter. In the networking we have done, I dont see any correlation to age.

Not only that, but both my sister and I are very much health conscious when it comes to our diet. We were then, and we are now. In fact, I even ate better during all my pregnancies.

All of our children recieved the required vaccinations.

Due to the severity of my niece's autism, she will never be able to function without help in society. With my son, with early intervention, special classes & teachers, and my teaching him to be independant, he will become a normal functioning adult. At 17, he has "outgrown" most of his behaviors - still has a few oddities - but other then having some educational difficulties, he is a fine young man.

At the end of the day, any medical professional would be truly honest and say outright, they have no clue as to the cuases of PDD's

    What Are PDDs?
Say a 3-year-old likes to play with the same toy over and over. And maybe he doesn't look at people when they talk with him. At preschool, he's just not mixing in with the others.
If a child's behaviors seem to interfere with the establishment of relationships and communication with others, the child should be evaluated for a language disorder or for possible PDD.
PDDs refer to a broader group of neurobiological conditions, known as autistic spectrum disorders, that are characterized by delayed development of communication and social skills.

    What Causes PDDs?

The causes of PDDs are unknown. Many scientists believe they stem from biological and neurological problems in the brain. They may also have a genetic basis.
Some studies have suggested that PDDs might stem from a wide-ranging and seemingly unrelated host of causes, including food allergies, excessive amounts of yeast in the digestive tract, and exposure to environmental toxins.
What is known is that PDDs are not caused by what used to be known as "the cold mother" in psychological studies (earlier notions that these disorders developed because of the emotional detachment of a child's parents have been debunked).

(I put into italics have suggested because it is NOT proven)

    Re: Autism Debate

The debate has pros and cons on both sides but my cousin who is also an obstetrician has two autistic kids, one severly, out of the four they have and they were in their mid twenties when they had them. All were vaccinated.

Our soldiers are also devoloping complications after the myriad of vaccinations they get before they ship out.

We vaccinated our kids before all this hoopla and they are fine but I would do some serious research before I vaccinated my kids anymore, especially with the incredible numbers of autistic kids showing up.

I mean think of the incredible amout of toxin you are putting in that the infant's immune system has to deal with.

    Re: Autism Debate

My oldest brother is mildly autistic (he has Asperger's) and my mum was only 25.
To be honest, it is partly hereditary anyway.
I don't know an awful lot about autism so I'll shut up now...

    Re: Autism Debate

My pediatrician believes that my daughter has a PDD, she's going to be evaluated by a specialist in couple of months. The pediatrician told me that the current theory is that there is a genetic component and an environmental component. They don't know what the environmental component is, but she said it was not vaccinations.
I was in my twenties when I had my daughter, so I'm not sure about age of the mother being a factor.
