I just dont see how the US will carry this out without reinstating the draft.

Unfortunatley, but support for a US invasion of Iran among US citizens will drop significantley if the draft is reinstated.

I'm not so sure that I've witnessed much support of a US invasion of Iran. You have a hard time finding posts advocating such action even from some hard core right wingers.

The US has been planning and atempting regime change in Iran since an internal revolt overthrew the US backed dictator the Sha in 1979. Read the Project For A New American Centrury document called "Rebuilding Americas Defenses".

The US wants regime change in Iran in part becouse its the only country standing in the way of the construction of Unocal's oil and gas pipelines that already run through most of the region. This is part of an effort to bring the oil from the Caspian basin under US control. This is also the reason the US is supporting the brutal regimes in Uzbekistan and Kyrgestan. The US military has a base in Kosovo called Camp Bonsteel that is directly astride these pipelines.

Sure, well even if I conceded the point to you. Some people go rushing for the answer in oil, hear war and want to know whos got the oil. The problem with that theory is this. Venezuela has lots of it, and they'd put up a little bitch fight. Venezuelans are trying to get out, and where do they come? The US, no suicide bombers there. No nationalists that would put up a struggle, just a cheesy little defence force that would be routed in days and an international comunity that would do nothing but bitch about it. So if it's all about the oil, why not Venezuela?

The US organized a coup and overthrew Hugo Chavez in 2002 and replaced him with the so called "dictator for a day". The day he was in power he desolved the constitution and parliament. He was then overthrown by the Venezuelan military and Chavez was returned to office.

Not quite the same as an occupying force though. So if its about oil, then why not just take the easiest to take. You can't believe that it would be more difficult than that.
