After Dick Cheney's comments about the use of torture, and the subsequent denial of its use by George Bush, how far can we really say that the USA does not use torture?

Well, torture is defined differently by some people: Is this what you define as torture?
Making a dog bark in a detainee's face?
Making a detainee stand naked and pose for pictures?
Making a detainee hear "sex sounds" or look at photos of naked women?
Making a detainee pyramid?
Define torture and someone will be able to answer you because none of the above is torturous and I have a feeling this is most likely what you were referring to.
America dosnt torture, they send them to foreign countries to get abused and tortured. The only Torture america does is disgrace peoples cultures and religons and force them to do things they dont want to which is mental torture, which is worse, but they are allowed to since bush can interpt laws.![]()
Well, I can't say weather the US uses torture due to the fact that methods for "making them talk" are secret. Personally, I think Americans should be able to see what methods are used for torture. So what if the enemy could view the methods too? If they know what will happen, maybe it will stop them from doing anything in the first place.
Personally though I think we use torture, I even think we use torture to the degree that it breaks treaties and war-time agreements. Why do I think that? Because I'm cynical and place little faith in what there is no evidence of. If it isn't in writing and accessable to the public as to what methods they can or cannot use then I'm forced to assume the worst. Innocent until proven guilty only works for citizens in my eyes, not governing bodies.
To those of you who think I'm just bashing our current government(mainly GWB), I'd use the same standard for anyone whom I didn't know personally.
Does the US use torture? See the Internal Revenue Code.
That is torture. Jesus your simply ignorant.
