The Day That The World Should Have Noticed

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) – “A defiant Saddam Hussein pleaded innocent to charges of murder and torture as his long-awaited trial began Wednesday with the one-time dictator arguing about the legitimacy of the court and scuffling with guards.

The first session of the trial lasted about three hours, and the judge ordered an adjournment until Nov. 28. Saddam and his seven co-defendants could face the death penalty if convicted for the 1982 massacre of nearly 150 Shiites in the town of Dujail. They are being tried in the former headquarters of Saddam's Baath Party. After presiding judge Rizgar Mohammed Amin, a Kurd, read the defendants their rights and the charges against them - which also include forced expulsions and illegal imprisonment - he asked each for their plea. He started with the 68-year-old ousted dictator, saying "Mr. Saddam, go ahead. Are you guilty or innocent?"

Over this past weekend something extraordinary took place in Iraq. However, many Americans do not seem to grasp the importance of what it really meant for the Iraqi people to go to the polls and choose a democracy for their country. Many seemed uninterested as well as ignorant as to what it meant for not only the Iraqi people, but for America and the rest of the world.

The Iraqi people struck a horrific blow to the heart of radical Islam by casting votes at the ballot box. Radical Islam is the fundamental reason that America and much of the civilized world is waging a war on terror because radical Islam seeks to wage war against all nations.

oh noes, iraq is gonna take over the world

actually, thats great news. its good to see people being able to voice their own opinions without fear of being silenced. unfortunately, in some places ( and some you wouldnt think it could happen ), you dont have this freedom. 8)

    Poppycock!

The whole "War on Terrorism" concept is a steaming pile of shit. Terrorism is an ideal. How the hell do you fight an ideal? Maybe the new 4th reich can implant chips in us to make us think correctly? ~Inkslinger

Inkslinger, perhaps your posts would be of better use if they actually made sense.

well, if my observations are right about inkslinger and zman, they are part of two different opposing sides of politics, so of course, somethings that each of you say wont *seem* to make sense, but in fact, they do.

you cant destroy or eliminate terrorism, because that would also include eliminating the target of terrorism, which, in this case, is the united states. i live in the united states, and proudly do so, and therefore dont want to see myself blown to bits. and i doubt everyone as part of the general public does too. so this 'war on terrorism' isnt going to end, until all of humanity, or all those opposing the us are taken out, which, seems to be, half, if not more, of the world.

lemon, no offense but I do not find it encouraging that there are people out there that feel this way. It has nothing to do with sides, it has to do with whether or not you believe that murderers/terrorists should be fought back until the end, or whether or not you feel we can just try and "understand them".

It is also very common to see a comment such as this "The whole "War on Terrorism" concept is a steaming pile of shit", yet there never seems to be an alternative to follow.

So ink, I ask you... What would you do?

You're starting to make sense Z-Man

it has to do with whether or not you believe that murderers/terrorists should be fought back until the end,

And that's exactly why I will do anything in my power to get Adolph Bush out of office!

how about we take everyone out of power and let the people do what they want? is this a good solution? no. you need organized leaders who lead in response to what the people want.

how do we do this? survey 3 people on the outside of some newspaper office, claim it represents all united statesians, and bam, thats the anser.

and then, you two ( ink and z ) ask each other what the other would do, given some situation, and then the other side never follows through, but attacks some other facet of such party the other stands for. and for an example, z's question of what ink would do to remove the terrorist/murderers, and ink replies back that hes gonna do everything he can to take out bush.

hmm, maybe politics would be better, if you atfq.

    damn

    Lemon

You don't get it at all.. first all, Z never asked what I'd do, nor would I ever ask him. I think him and I both know it's not up to us to control foriegn policy or budget our economy. It's up to people like us to elect who we think is best for the job and object to anything that goes against our belief. Apparently, you're very young or very old and still stuck in the 60's hon. Maybe if you go plant some daisies or rescue an abandoned puppy, the world will be a better place? Please don't run for any government positions! Petunias and rainbows ain't gonna fix it hon... You're what gives liberals a bad name... ~Inkslinger
