    May 26, 2011 -- Updated 0941 GMT (1741 HKT)STORY HIGHLIGHTS
Tens of thousands rally in Baghdad to demand U.S. troops leave as scheduled
The protest comes as the prime minister considers asking the U.S. to stay longer
A security pact requires all American troops out by the end of the year
Radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr threatens violence against U.S. troops if they don't leave

Baghdad (CNN) -- The clock is ticking for Iraq to ask U.S. troops to stay beyond an end of the year deadline to withdraw from the country.

It's a question that sparked a massive protest Thursday on the streets of Baghdad when tens of thousands dressed in the colors of the Iraqi flag marched in a military-style parade and chanted "Get out, occupier" in the Shiite slum of Sadr City.

The protest comes as Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki meets with Iraq's political leadership to discuss the possibility of extending American troops beyond the January 1, 2012, withdrawal deadline.

I've got some bad news for the Iraqis - we're never leaving Iraq. And there's nothing they can do about it. Now I don't like it, but that's the way it is.

Even if they demand that we leave?
What possible moral/legal justification would we use? (& do you advocate staying there even if asked to leave?)

You're right..there would be nothing they could do about it....but there's plenty that we American voters could!

    A few scenarios:
    1. The Iraqi government could demand we leave.
    2. The Iraqi government could ask us to stay but the people of Iraq could make a convincing case that their government is a puppet of Exxon-Mobil & not representative of the people of Iraq. (killing American GI's in Iraq would undoubtedly be how they would register their displeasure)

In either case, would you recommend we stay?....& if so, why?

505, theese protesters were bussed in from southern Iraq and this demonstration was an al-Sadr backed endeavor. The Iranian backed Shia militia leader and instigator up to his old tricks, the crowd estimation was about 70,000 when 2 million live in the slums.

You're such a sheeple, 505. You believe everything they tell you, a perfect liberal. Do as you're told, too unaware to know better.

This from a man who still thinks Ronnie Reagan was a Strong President..Baaa Baaa.

P.S..I am only half jerking your chain, kinda in a augmentative mood today so don't take to much personal O.S...

This. This is a perfect example of why so many of the debates involving you two give me tired head.

It's a really good post up to this point. Rebuts his argument by presenting new information. Good stuff from the OS.

But we can't leave well enough alone, can we?

Towski.........might it have escaped you....that 505 is intelligent......that he knows full well these are al-sadr protesters who were bussed in by the thousands, he knows full well it's in the Sadr neighborhoods. He's trying to sell his wares and purposefully deceive, towski, you don't get that?

He's a liberal. He knows the truth here....and playing his little game that you certainly can't be unfamiliar with playing. 505 is a smart Cat, he's regurgitating the liberal talking point nonsense like the good lil sheeple he is. He knows he's being led by the nose, looking silly doing it...the agenda is more important as.....some people even believe his bullshit here. Did you?
