    Obama finally weighs in

After coming out in support for Egypt's protestors last week, I was alarmed by Obama's silence during Libyan, Yemeni, and Iranian democracy protests this week. We have staggering debt, an economy best described as stagnant, budget fights, state protests....got pirates murdering Americans on the high seas, I got Bluegrass and Feetie trying to convince me Middle Eastern protests are actually anti-US sentiment movements.......Obama I heard is going to make some big policy decision today, it must address one of these huge issues. Wait...here comes some announcement now......let's see what our esteemed President is going to decide.

President Obama has directed his Justice Department to stop defending the law that bans federal recognition of same sex marriage.

Uhhhh.....yeah. Uh.....I was expecting something with more gravity there are some world crisis we've been waiting to hear the President speak on.

And is this even a repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act?

No. Same sex couples will still be unable to jointly file their federal tax returns, and they won’t be eligible to receive Social Security benefits based on their spouse’s earnings record.

"Today was a tremendously important moral turning point, but the work of making it a legal reality in the lives of couples still remains ahead of us,” said Evan Wolfson, president of Freedom to Marry.

Great Evan, thanks. I'm sure on the global scale of events turning this world right now, your moral turning point stands tall.

Uh....can we start being the f'n Commander in Chief now? Or would you like to anounce more political gamesmanship, this in reality changes nothing concerning same sex marriage. Nice.......'leader'.....y'all done picked, I feel.......so secure knowing he's on the f'n job.

    Jesus Christ.

Obama likes the low hanging fruit.

Capitalism doesn't work for lazy imbeciles who refuse to grow up. That's one of it's greatest strengths, actually.

You seem to have missed it when the potus addressed the Libyan uprising. links are above.
I'll give you the cliffsnotes version:

Obama Speech on Libya (Feb. 23, 2011) Transcript

First, we are doing everything we can to protect American citizens. That is my highest priority. In Libya, we’ve urged our people to leave the country and the State Department is assisting those in need of support.

The suffering and bloodshed is outrageous and it is unacceptable. So are threats and orders to shoot peaceful protesters and further punish the people of Libya. These actions violate international norms and every standard of common decency. This violence must stop.

The United States also strongly supports the universal rights of the Libyan people. That includes the rights of peaceful assembly, free speech, and the ability of the Libyan people to determine their own destiny. These are human rights. They are not negotiable.

In a volatile situation like this one, it is imperative that the nations and peoples of the world speak with one voice, and that has been our focus. Yesterday a unanimous U.N. Security Council sent a clear message that it condemns the violence in Libya, supports accountability for the perpetrators, and stands with the Libyan people. This same message, by the way, has been delivered by the European Union, the Arab League, the African Union, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, and many individual nations.

I’ve also asked my administration to prepare the full range of options that we have to respond to this crisis. This includes those actions we may take and those we will coordinate with our allies and partners, or those that we’ll carry out through multilateral institutions.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Stay quiet, work behind the scenes, put your assets to work on the ground, and you're not showing enough public leadership. Say something in public, and you're grandstanding. Shrug.
They shall know me by the tang of my bitter and untenable jadedness.

Oh, he's community organizing his "administration" to give him a full range of options? Where is his call for change and for Qaddafi to step down? We all condemn the violence in Libya, this is the easiest press release one can give.

Where is his f'n policy, Ted?

Obama understands that the rhetoric pleasing to American nationalists is mostly counterproductive on the international scene. Loud denunciations mostly backfire, as the repeated diplomatic gaffs of the last administration demonstrate.
Even when alternative views are clearly wrong, being exposed to them still expands our creative potential. In a way, the power of dissent is the power of surprise. After hearing someone shout out an errant answer, we work to understand it, which causes us to reassess our initial assumptions and try out new perspectives. “Authentic dissent can be difficult, but it’s always invigorating,” Nemeth says.

It's known as demonstrating judgement and diplomacy. Loud American support is generally a negative in the ME. Braying it too early a la "Mission Accomplished!" could have rallied support for Gaddafi before the uprising gained traction. Success is by no means certain even now, but at least there is a widespread movement in existence to get behind.
