War in Georgia: The Israeli connection

That's the title of an article in an Israeli newspaper
    http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/Art...0136%2C00.html

    A few excerpts:
For past seven years, Israeli companies have been helping Gerogian army to preparer for war against Russia through arms deals, training of infantry units and security advice

The military cooperation between the countries developed swiftly. The fact that Georgia's defense minister, Davit Kezerashvili, is a former Israeli who is fluent in Hebrew contributed to this cooperation.

"His door was always open to the Israelis who came and offered his country arms systems made in Israel," the source said. "Compared to countries in Eastern Europe, the deals in this country were conducted fast, mainly due to the defense minister's personal involvement.
"The Israelis should be proud of themselves for the Israeli training and education received by the Georgian soldiers," Georgian Minister Temur Yakobashvili said Saturday.

Yakobashvili is a Jew and is fluent in Hebrew. "We are now in a fight against the great Russia," he said, "and our hope is to receive assistance from the White House, because Georgia cannot survive on its own.
and another article in the same paper:
Ex-envoy: Georgia modeled its army after IDF - Israel News, Ynetnews

Ex-envoy: Georgia modeled its army after IDF
"Georgian government officials used to tell me that they wanted to model their army after the IDF," former Israeli ambassador to Georgia Shabtai Zur told Ynet Sunday evening amid the country's bloody feud with Russia over the separatist region of South Ossetia.

"In my opinion these developments are due in part to advice Georgia received from Israeli companies that operate there," Zur said, adding that the economic development in the country has attracted many Israeli businessmen.

The former envoy said the ongoing tension between Georgia and the separatist provinces brought Israeli experts to the area.

"The private company of Brig.-Gen. (res.) Gal Hirsch (Galilee Division commander during the Second Lebanon War) has been operating in Georgia for some time now and is providing consultation to the Georgian army," he noted.

I don't doubt that the Israelis trained and armed the Georgian military. The Israeli army is by far one of the best in the world. I simply don't buy into the intent of this thread, that being Israel controls the world bullshit.

That is NOT the intent of this threat. Ever heard of Pavlovian conditioning? You have really fallen for that!
The purpose was to add to your knowledge of the issue of the war between Georgia and south Ossetia. The information in those Israeli articles is offered to you by me in the same spirit as the author offer it to their readership. To be INFORMED.
It seems there is something about the facts documented that are causing you some cognitive dissonance!

relations with what might be a new ally in the region, how is that "evil"?

Exactly TFM. The Israelis may have sold Georgia arms and provided some training assistance but that's where their involvement ends. Same for the US. It provided advisory training but nothing more.

It's idiotic to believe that there's anything more to it.

so, who gives a shit even if they did.
I'm sure iraq at one point trained the georgian military. Russian trained the independence people. US trained everyone in the world.

Everyone gets trained by someone else, and those who are the best with militaries usually do the training. Especially if two countries agree on the same fundamentals of things.

Why do you bring up the Israeli connection though? Is there an ulterior motive?

Re: War in Georgia: The Israeli connection

From an ideological standpoint it makes perfect sense. Georgian territory has been occupied by Russia, with UN consent, under the threat of a full out Russian invasion. Israel and the US should be supplying arms to Georgia, they should be training soldiers and offering advisors. It should be obvious what's going on here, Russia has strengthend a Soviet claim to Georgian territory since the rise of Putin. Georgia was cornered in to accepting these horrid terms in the first place, and probably they expected more international support when they decided to reclaim their territory from mother russia.
