Ukraine says it reserves right to bar Russian navy

Ukraine may become involved in this mess.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine warned Russia on Sunday it could bar Russian navy ships from returning to their base in the Crimea because of their deployment to Georgia's coast.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said the deployment of a Russian naval squadron to Georgia's Black sea coast has the potential of drawing Ukraine into the conflict.
"In order to prevent the circumstances in which Ukraine could be drawn into a military conflict ... Ukraine reserves the right to bar ships which may take part in these actions from returning to the Ukrainian territory until the conflict is solved," said the statement which was posted on the ministry's Web site.
Both Ukraine and Georgia have sought to free themselves of Russia's influence, integrate into the West and join NATO.
The statement reflected a strong Ukrainian support for Georgia and is certain to anger Moscow, further straining Russian-Ukrainian relations.
Russia's deputy chief of General Staff Col.-Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn said Sunday he was aware of the statement, but added that the Russian government must analyze it before making comment.
"It makes a third party involved, and it's quite unexpected," Nogovitsyn said said at a news conference.
A 1997 agreement between Russia and Ukraine lets the Black Sea Fleet remain in Sevastopol through 2017, but Ukrainian officials have said they want it out after that. The issue adds to emotions over Crimea, which was part of the Russian Federation but ceded to Ukraine during the Soviet era and became part of the independent Ukraine when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.

No way. They'll be no US involvement other than diplomatic efforts to stop the Russian aggression. Sarkozy and the EU have condemend the Russian action.

There's no demonstrable relation to problems with Iran.

    How's everything going in Israel?

    absolutely amazing.
I have so many stories to tell, if you want to know a few stories just ask about what.

For instance, I'm in the golan heights now. I really don't know why Syria gives a shit about this place. Right now, there hasn't been a decent rain for 3 years, and virtually all of the rivers save the biggest one have dried up (think about 20 or so). I was being 'chauffered' around on saturday by my cousins, and outta 100% of the place, save the north near syria....I'd say about 70% is not livable, cause its mostly rocks and waterless fields. There is very little green, and the green that you do see...probably 90% of it was planted by people rather than from nature.
Oh, apparently theres also a UN presence on the border between Israel and Syria. Some polish troops, but that place was quieter than brooklyn. Oddly enough, the border between syria and israel is a dirt road, with a small forest on both sides.
Basically, the golan heights is rocks and dry grass, and where there is green the plants either got lucky, or someone planted it/irrigates it.

Beyond this, we had lunch at a druze town. Man, those guys get mucho respect from me. We had lunch for about 16 shekels worth, and my cousins wife gives the man a 50 shekel bill. He replies, "I don't want any presents." To which we reply, "Give us all some coffee then, we aren't taking back that 50."

Oh yeah, the road up to their kibbutz runs about 10 feet away from the border with jordan. Pretty fucking amazing. Right outside their kibbutz, you can see the lights of jordan fairly distant away, about 10 km or so.

as regards to your initial point....I hate to sum up my views in a catchphrase, but global economics breeds global politics. Just as globalism promotes the WTO and the IMF, so does it promote global wars.

    LoL.
Ironically, about 5 minutes after I finished that post someone comes into my cousins house saying 'hey, theres a thai festival to honor the queen of thailand!'

I get all excited thinking that I'm going to see people dressing up in asian costumes and whatnot. NAh, people basically were chilling on the basketball court listening to a thai rock band while eating chicken and noodles. Mmmmm....

While I worked on the army bases, both Julis and Naura, this was basically my diet:

In the morning, there was a mix of cucumber/tomato salad, peppers, yogurt, cottage cheese, chocolate milk in a bag, eggs, pudding, bread, water, olives, and some other type of salad.

At lunch, there were all of those except for the milk products; so no cheese, yogurt, milk, pudding. There was instead bug juice, some carb (think rice/pasta), some meat, and actually prepared salad, and usually some sort of humus like spread. Lunch was by far the best meal of the day.

Dinner was virtually the same as breakfast.

    Other things:
My first meal in Israel was at McDonalds in givatayim, which is basicalyl a city that borders tel aviv. Shuoldn't really call it a separate city, because there is nothing that separates them, and I don't think givatayim even has anything separte or whatnot. More like neighborhoods.
McDonalds here is expensive. But, its quarter pounders are better, and you can even order them on a pita. I don't know why you'd do that...but you still can.

Don't talk to Israeli combat soldiers about food. Their meal everyday = canned meat, bread, chocolate spread, canned vegetables, water.
    Same thing everyday.
