No Nukes at least until 2009 for Iran

US Intelligence Says Iran Halted Nuclear Weapons Program in 2003
VOA News - US Intelligence Says Iran Halted Nuclear Weapons Program in 2003

    Soooo, now what?

Iran is said to have halted its nuke program in 2003.
Iran is still keeping the door open for options to create nukes.
    Iran is continuing to enrich.
Iran has countless sanctions still in place due to this threat of nukes.
All of this is caused by US pressure and it worked.

Again, so how do we take this?

Also a lot of our dealings with Iran, opinions of Iran, and fear of Iran has come from the 2005 report that seems inflated. So have we been inflated as well?

their plan wasn't to need them until 2010 so it looks like they are right on schedule.

The time to act through whatever mechanisms are available (economic sanctions, or force) is before your enemy arms, not after. I do not believe the intel orgs have a very clear picture of what is happening now so one speculation is as good as another I suppose, but we should look at what we do know about Iranian government behaviors, stated aims and predilections, and what we actually do know about their nuclear actions.

I was listening to Hannity the other night, and he raised a good point that I am ashamed to admit that I never thought of in my glee that we can avoid a major confrontation with Iran.

Iran has steadfastly denied ever trying to develop nuclear weapons.

However, the report stes, if accurate, that they were and stopped it in 2003.

Could this have been an actual benefit of the Iraq war? Perhaps they decided they did not want the cowboy president to invade them? I seem to recall that Libya publicly announced it was ending all WMD programs.

Now, it does not change my opinion that to invade Iraq, but I will certainly man up and say that perhaps this is a positive result that came out of the war.

Iran is not capable of producing the quality of enriched uran to be used in nuclear weapons - not now and not in the future.

I say, America should do what other countries are doing, focus on economic relationship with Iran, rather than use it as a political showplace to have look people away from real issues. The oil, gas and other natural resources Iran has as well as its potential as a large country with good economic prospects are things that could create a win-win situation - I say, encourage US companies to go back into Iran and work there, make money there, like European companies do it.

And you got this information where exactly?

I'm not sure how halting the 'plan' puts them right on schedule.

Well Iran still insists it has never had a weaponization project. The IAEA started investigating in 2002, I'd suggest that this was probably more of a cataylst for either Iran to stop a prgram or the US to stop accusing it of having one...

The alleged plan for weaponization centres around the so-called "Green Salt Project" which Iran says is baseless and the CIA has been rather coy about sharing details of with the IAEA. These issues remain under current investigation by the IAEA.

A rather comprehensive rundown of the Iran weaponization issues can be found on the Nov 15 IAEA board report here....

I agree that in the sense that weapons grade material is a very far cry from energy grade material.
