Thread: Saudi Arabia, should we support them or not?

Frankly i hate the Saudi government it should be taken down right now and the people should be given a democracy. The royale family gets all the oil money when the saudis who live in the country dont get anything. Its their country they should get the money not princes and princess.

You can't force a democracy on people. Especially on an Islamic state such as Saudi Arabia.

There is no such thing as an Islamic Republic.

Sometimes, you have to make deals with unsavory people. We need the oil, or our economy goes bust.

It's an oxymoron, as a matter of fact.

There is no good alternative to the Saudi govt. short of the U.S. occupying the country for an indefinite period.

even under islamic principles, the saudi government is unacceptable. Laws forbidding women to drive and the like are inventions of the Saudi regime and have nothing to do with the religion. But the US does not care because it is not in its best interest to care. Thats why Saudi can get away with it. And its been that way in the Middle East forever it seems. Egypt has a terrible human rights record, but the US will gladly prop up the dictatorial government for 25 years plus so long as it stabilizes the country and thus the region. Sound familiar? Sure it does, Saddam would have been fine if he just could have been a despot within his own borders.

I agree but then, their people are very well-off, especially the middle-class. It'd be a hard process.
