Thread: Lech Wałęsa or Ronal Reagan? Hah, easy!

Just today, while eating some really crappy food a Denny's (which btw I never paid for nor tipped for and in addition got a raincheck for a free meal), I was reading a readers comment in Orlando Sentinel. It was from a veteran and old soldier who once again pulled out the old and totally worn out and 100% incorrect "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down these walls" as the reason for the East Bloc collaps and quite frankly it's so distrubing to read because it is 100% factully incorrect. Sleepy Ronnie had nothing to do with it, not a single damn thing.

If this is the quality of history that is thaught in USA, I must say it's scary.

Why can Americans never stick to the facts and always have to make themselves look like the goodies while in reality Reagan was a lousy crappy B-actor B-president who the world laughed at, while brave men and women like Lech Walesa risked their lives and spent time in prison for starting the earthquake that brought down the East Bloc? Is your American ego that gargantuan?

The Nobel Peace Prize is pretty meaningless. If assholes like Arafat can get it, then it kind of defeats the purpose of a peace prize, doesn't it?

LMAO, all the guy did was start some strikes. Anyone who thinks that a few strikes is going to bring down the Iron Curtain is living in fantasy land. I'm pretty sure that the President of the United States is going to have a little more influence than Lech Walesa.

It's impossuible to discuss these issues with morons like you.

What felled the USSR was their decayed economy. They were spending at a tremendous pace towards armaments. Over 50% of their total budget went to it. For the USSR that was crushing. Add other factors that were a drain. Certainly their Long and failed attempt to take over Afganistan was part of it too. Lech had a direct affect on what happened in Poland. But Poland was only a small part of what caused the USSR's demise. Lech was a courageous man. So was the Pope. One cannot lessen John Pauls affect on the fate of Poland. If you want to talk about Poland vs. the USSR these two figures are eminent. If you want to talk about The fall of the USSR in general, then Reagan is at the top. Add to it Margret Thatcher.
