Turkey to become or join European Union ( EU ) is not something suprising to most intellectuals but to an average man becomes too complicated finding out the pros and cons , that is why religion matters sounds overwhelming and really prevailing aspect in discussions to face , why Turkey can not or can join European Union ?

The real truth for Turkey to be in European Union ( EU ) member lies deep in the History Studies ( In a most History political view ) of the Great Ottoman Empire Existence before times which was later reduced to ( today called Turkey ) by the and according to the Lausanne Treaty of 24th July 1923 . It seems accordingly that Europe is expanding through the same territories of Ottoman Empire extending across the Middle East , up to Asia and Africa

Turkey's eventual membership in the EU seems very reasonable when the country's geographic, political and economic situation is taken into account.

I personally don't really consider Turkey to be part of Europe. But I got nothing against them joining the EU. I'm sure over the next decade they'll be ready to join.

Turkey is not exactly deserving of candidacy in my opinion.

I agree.
We can help them develop without them being into the EU. The EU is also a cultural entity, and Turkey doesn't have the same cultural identity as the current members.
But well, as we already have Israel and Turkey playing in the European Football cup...

The institutions of the EU should work on a definition of Europe. With geographic and cultural boundaries. My worst nightmare would be to see Russia joining the EU actually. Them electing (and liking, it seems) a cold blooded murderer as their leader is scary.

Turkey's going down hill fast. Ten years from now they could be fighting a civil war and mired in terrorism.
