I don't know if anyone here has heard of this documentary yet, but it's a really enlightening look at the European view of America--its history, politics, culture, and people. It'll air on PBS nationwide Monday August 27, 2007 at 1p.m. EST.

You realize that you can find the same sentiments, coming from the same peoples, dating back a couple of hundred years now don't you? To Europeans, we have always been inferior, stupid, heavy handed, yada, yada. Never mind the fact that in the past century we preserved their way of life on more than one occassion and given them the opportunity to divulge themselves in a socialist welfare state while we provided their protection.

I say we get out of Europe and let Russia take them over again.

And when they start sniveling and crying for our help, we tell them that Americans are stupid brutes who dont help other people in need. Fucking assholes....

you big crybabies! Ah dear always entertains me that because you jumped into a few world wars LATE that we should be eternally grateful to your particular country and not the other 20 that also helped us out. I'd also ask whether you'd include the germans in your writings, might have to exempt the austrians and the italians too.

But in my opinon the main reason europeans (as a whole) will put down americans is because you spend most of your time telling us how great your country is. Now it works as a great social tactic in the US im sure but we just don't want to know about it and simply as i brit i love to see people who Boast about themselves brought down. Maybe its an inferior complex but then i think there is a lot of be said for modesty and letting your actions speak for themselves.

So the end of the day it comes down to a lack of national humility. So why do we endlessly point out america's failings?? because you endlessly point out her positivies ^^ have a nice day yankees and remember next time we have a world war you gotta sit on your asses until the last minute so you can jump in at the end and then tell us of how great you are we really appreciate that

Some good, if rather undiplomatically stated, points there Roachy (good to see you back and on form ).

As I said in another post to one of my American friends: "I'll do you a deal - you stop telling us how much better than us you are, and we shall cease successfully demonstrating why this is not so." :waving:

Actually I think we are planning on starting the next World War.

And as for jumping in last minute, no problem. We didnt start the last two world wars. In WW1 we had not a damn thing to do with it. We even tried to prevent the rediculous Versailles treaty, against the British and especially French wishes. Arguably, that treaty led to thew ascent of the Nazis, and the shelling of Europe. You are lucky we came at all.
