Four words- get rid of it.
Four words- get rid of it.
It's the only thing we have left that's worth keeping intact. Take it out, no communication will lead to a WW3 or something. As Shashi Tharoor once said, UN is not an organization, it is a central point of communication and it's primary role is to facilitate communication between adversaries on a potential point of conflict. Likewise, they also act as 3rd mediators in conflicts.
Hence if we do get the right view of this organization, we will understand it better and it's limitations. It's better to have a limited UN... because no controller may ever be neutral. Remember, everyone is born in a certain country - hence interests may shroud judgment, depending on the situation.
List five productive things the U.N. has done for the world.
I can see positive views of the UN but I also can see the possibilities of abuse. I consider a world government a complete abuse and I stand against it on most points. And that is where I see the UN headed. So take out the whole standardizing the world crap and its fine.
Unfortunately, standardizing the world is all the U.N. wants to do, and if you take that out you wouldn't have a U.N.
The UN is made of the member states. If the UN wants to standardize things, you are saying that the member states want to standardize... Therefore getting rid of the UN will not eliminate the standardization because if the countries want to do it they will continue to do so.
It has:
1. Brought the world together.
2. Flattened International politics.
3. Linked nations on a standard level.
4. Increased global security, today no country can wage a war and can be expected to walk away, without needing to answer.
5. It has given the developing world a say in world affairs. Let's not forget how Europe and the West has dictated world affairs since the colonial days.
You are also forgeting how the League of Nations had failed.
