Its been a running joke since the last gulf war and apparently the most recent gulf war is no different. The Americans are remarkably good at shooting at British troops. Thanks guys

Sky News: 'We're Going To Jail Dude!

A videotape at the centre of a row over the "friendly-fire" death of a British soldier in Iraq has been obtained by a newspaper.
The Sun claims the American pilots involved realised immediately they had fired a missile at a British military convoy.
"God dammit!", one of the pilots, call sign POPOV36, shouted. Another, POPOV35, yelled: "We're in jail, dude!"
The paper, which has released a full transcript, reports POPOV35 also said "I'm going to be sick", while POPOV36 wept as they returned to base.
Lance Corporal of Horse, Matty Hull, was killed near Basra, on March 28, 2003, after an American fighter jet opened fire on British soldiers.
The UK vehicles were carrying orange overhead canvas panels used to identify Coalition forces to aircraft.
But one of the pilots said they could have been orange rockets.
Sky's defence analyst Francis Tusa said the pilots should have viewed the panels as a reason to stop and pull back.

"It is not quite a fail safe procedure but near enough. My concern in this incident would be tactics, techniques and procedures."
An inquest into the 28-year-old's death was adjourned last week after the coroner said he "had no choice" but to delay his verdict.
That was because the US government had refused to release the classified video evidence, the Ministry of Defence said.
A MoD spokeswoman said today: "A copy of the video was used as evidence by the Board of Inquiry's (BOI) investigation into the incident.
"This recording is the property of the United States government and the MoD does not have the right to release it without their permission.
"When the BOI findings were released to the family we did inform them that some classified material had been withheld, but we did not specify its exact nature.
"There has never been any intention to deliberately deceive or mislead L/Cpl of Horse Hull's family."
Sources said last week the tape, which the Ministry of Defence original said did not exist, was "incriminating" and contained the line: "Someone's going to jail for this."




Still friendly fire is bound to happen in every conflict, but it does appear these pilots had all the information they required to realise that these were allies. I mean in additon to the "orange roofs" that are reported in this article other articles have stated that the British troops fired off flares to identify themselves as coalition forces but the American planes still swooped round for another run. The pilots were also informed by aircom that there were freindly's in the vicinity in the form of British tank. When British troops radioed to request the americans to stop attacking their convoy they were told that the pilots were "rogue pilots" and could not be stopped. Seems like enough information to at least phone home and ask for a confirmation.


I feel very sad for the man's family and i hope the men responsible spend sometime in the clink for manslaughter. Mistakes of this proportion demand punishment.

Yeah a similar thing happened a bit of a while back where some American troops shot an Australian soldier while he was helping an Iraqi family.

The moral of the story: never trust Americans with guns.

lol, or just don't get in any kind of war where they are involved, doesn't matter which side your on they'll still shoot you
