Ahmadinejad: U.S., Israel will soon die

Israel and the United States will soon be destroyed, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday during a meeting with Syria's foreign minister, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) website said in a report. "Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad… assured that the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel will soon come to the end of their lives," the Iranian president was quoted as saying.
"Sparking discord among Muslims, especially between the Shiites and Sunnis, is a plot hatched by the Zionists and the US for dominating regional nations and looting their resources," Ahmadinejad added, according to the report.
The Iranian president also directly tied events in Lebanon to a wider plan aimed at Israel's destruction. He called on "regional countries" to "support the Islamic resistance of the Lebanese people and strive to enhance solidarity and unity among the different Palestinian groups in a bid to pave the ground for the undermining of the Zionist regime whose demise is, of course, imminent."
Ahmadinejad has threatened the State of Israel with annihilation several times in recent months, and has recently added the US and Britain to the list of countries he says will be destroyed.

If he were wise, he would Shut up and tend to his own country. Unite the Sunni and Shiites; stop the civil war between them and America would pull out of the area. Saying things like that only puts fuel on the fire. They can’t keep committing terrorist acts and live in peace.

He is purposely putting fuel on the fire, he wants to stymy the fire because he is in power riding a wave of anti american and "zionism" and the best way for him to stay in power is to keep that wave going.

But it is just rhetoric.

Isn't there a lot of dissent against him in Iran at the moment? Least that's what I've read recently on the BBC website. He's neither an educated or intelligent man in my opinion, left to themselves I believe the Iranians will get rid of him at their next elections as long as there is no Western rhetoric to stir up their emotions.

This is bluster and rhetoric, and should be treated as such. And to be honest, I've heard similar opposing sentiments from people like Ann Coulter in the US.

That reason is why he will be voted out in June, and the extremists lost ground in the last elections this fall. The holocaust conference did nothing but make people roll their eyes and slump their shoulders in shame at their leader. This moron loses support every time he opens his mouth and his party is paying for it.

Yes, couldn't agree more. I didn't realise the next Iranian elections were so soon. I just hope Bush doesn't open his mouth too much before then and cause a reaction in Ahmadinejad's favour. Fingers crossed.

Thats the flip side of the coin, we indirectly make them more extreme. For instance the guys before this current group of leaders were more moderate, mainly worried about religion and their own country. After we invaded two of their nieghbors, especially Iraq, and Bush put them in the axis of evil, they took a big step toward extremist by voting in angry anti-American people like the president. Not to say they were all hugs and kisses before hand.

But then go back further, to when the shahs took power. We were supporting a horrible brutal despot who sold us cheap oil. When the revolution happened, these guys were heroes in their country for taking over and taking Americans hostage, and as fucked up as these guys were, they were saints compared to the last leader.

Agreed. And I don't believe for a second that he actually believes that the Holocaust didn't happen....the purpose of that statement was to provoke a reaction, and to turn the attention on Iran once more.

Ahmadinejad will get beat down like he owes us child support if we fight him and he knows that. He's putting on a good show for the world and we're all biting.

Ever seen one of those frogs that puff up REALLY big in efforts to stop a bigger predator from eating it? I think Ahmadinejad is just like that frog.
