Its complicated. The way they act does not help their situation is my simplified answer. You have to go back to the begining of European colonialism to get to the root. All sides, from America, to the Arabs, to the Palestinians, to Europeans, to Isreal, have been the good guys, and have also been the problem at one point in time.

Right now, I think it is both sides fault. People can talk all they want about how the Palestinians are terrorists, they bomb innocent civilians. Isreal acts like a terrorists and kills innocent civilians too. In fact they have killed way more Arabs, then Arabs have killed them. And most of that is with the USA backing them up. Isreal has defied more UN mandates in recent times than anyone, besides the US. The US also holds some responsibility for the situation.

Thankfully the worst two figures in their struggles, Yassar Arafat and Ariel Sharon are both dead, and their have been some recent stirrings of communication and dialogue between Isreal and the Arabs, and they have made some strides with Fatah as well.

I think we need to take the lead there.

The UN is largely run by a bunch of anti-semites... many of them are quite open about it. If Israel were to obey all of the UN mandates against it, it would disappear off the face of the map in short order... simply because by the time they waited for UN troops to rescue her from her invading neighbors... well, just think Rwanda, Somalia or Sudan to get an idea of how trustworthy UN troops are.

I think we need to take the lead there.
I think we need to mind our own business. The Israelites are a lot of things & needing our help clearly isn't one of them. Our meddling in their affairs ensures we have one strong ally in the Mid East & what... a half dozen enemies based upon that?

Like the US, I think Israel has every right to defend herself & think by & large she does a good job of it. She mis-steps from time to time, but what do you expect from a nation in her position? While the negotiations are seemingly done in good spirit, that doesn't stop one nutcake on either side from pulling the trigger & destroying any forward progress.

A half dozen enemies? A good part of our problems come from us supporting them in the first place and letting them have free reign.

And show me how the UN is a bunch of anti semites. Isreal was created on their blessing.

Athough I will skip the part about colonial overlords creating a new nation on the holiest site on Earth, and then booking it back to Europe, the Arabs did in effect start this whole situation by attacking them and getting their asses handed to them.
