Obama open to newspaper bailout bill

    http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefi...r-bailout-bill

"The president said he is "happy to look at" bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses."

So would they be able to report on political issues and take sides editorially?

"I am concerned that if the direction of the news....."

It is not his concern as President.

How long before he takes over the boards of the newspapers and fires the CEO's and tells them what news they can or can't print?

Just like his Hero Chavez. Thing is how is he going to MAKE people start reading them again. The news papers are going out of bussines for a good reason. Most they traded their integrity and objectivity for a political agenda the support.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down thepossibility of government assistance for news organizations, which havebeen hit by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.

Inearly May, Gibbs said that while he hadn't asked the presidentspecifically about bailout options for newspapers, "I don't know what,in all honesty, government can do about it."

Not likely. Take a few Tums and calm down.

Boogey men around the corner - BOOOOO!

Hell, even your article doesn't say what your headline alleges.

"The president said he is "happy to look at" bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses."

Looking at the bills proposed by congress does not mean Obama wants to take over the media.

Tax breaks does not equal a take over.

Have you considered increasing your daily exercise routine? I would think that could help you deal with all the stress you must be going through as you exaggerate every Obama move or consideration.

Back in the 80's, I bought one of the fisrt CD players of the day.

I got razzed for following a 'fad' from my friends.

No way would this new-fangled digital crap going to triumph over

scratchy vinyl. Same thing with newspapers, a dying breed.

A single source for news will not triumph unlimited views that

can be found on the internets.

Who even subscribes to the paper anymore? Old school conservatives?

I would oppose Obama throwing away my tax dollars on bailing out a dead fish..

This kind of spending is stimulus, Inky.

The Messiah want's the taxpayer to yet once again involuntarily support industries it's voluntarily decided it doesn't not wish to support, ie, if the LA Times wasn't such a shitty left-wing rag of a newspaper, it wouldn't be having such severe circulation problems and the coinciding problems of getting the advertisers to pay for space in that rag.

Did the LA Times break the ACORN scandal? Why not? Because they're a left wing rag and won't investigate their own.

Did the LA Times endorse a full slate of left-wing scumbag trash for all local, state, and national elections for the last twenty years I've been living in Los Angeles? Yes, so reliably so that no American would even think about subscribing to that trash.

Does the LA Times defend the illegal invasion of the United States? Of course they do. Then more people decide they don't want to buy that rag.

If they can't cover the news honestly (they don't), if their editorial policies resemble the same anti-American bullshit we see from all the left-wing fish-wraps in the nation (and they do), then it's not suprising the free market has been shutting them down.

Too bad for them. They're just a commercial business. If they fail, they fail. No loss, since the paper already refuses to "give something back" to it's community...like the truth.

The Constitution did not allow the Messiah to confiscate GM and Chrysler, nor does it allow the Messiah to assist private newspapers. They live and die on their own abilities, people.

Fortunately, it looks like the LA Times is dying.

I'm mocking the idea of stimulus, Inky.

The entire idea behind the stupid concept was "put money into people's hands that we don't actually have to stimulate the economy."

This bailout looks like every bit of the stimulus that was passed.
