The nation marked the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with rain-soaked remembrances and acts of volunteerism honoring those who rushed into danger to help.

Around the country, Americans packed up care packages for soldiers, planted gardens for low-income families and painted abandoned, boarded-up homes. The anniversary Friday was declared a day of service for the first time this year to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives to save others from the burning World Trade Center.

it seemed some had a problem with the national day of service, despite its bipartisan support from congress, so what was it?

it seems to me, one of the best ways to stick to terrorist, who's goal is to bring the country down, would be to mark 9/11 with a day of making the country BETTER. its a shame bush didn't start this immediately, it would have been one of the few things i'd have approved of him doing.

    Wow thats twisted.

9/11 is not a spring board for Obama to launch some deluded community service agenda. It's a day that should be put aside for one purpose and that is to remember the victims and heroes of those dispicable attacks.

The problem with you liberals is that you fail to recognize how exceptional the American people have been for decades and that they have NEVER needed the governments encouragment to do something for their neighbors or their communities.

What you posted has been going on for years under Bush but without his insistence or his trampling on a national day of remberance. Care packages for the troops, charities for the wounded and people that go out of their way to help those less fortunate in their community.

This Country is one of the most philanthropic in the world but all you can focus on is the evil of Conservatives. Your mind is too numb to realize Obama is plaing you like a pawn shop banjo.

He could just have easily picked another day for this useless community service program. How about Martin Luther Kings Birthday ? Im guessing that would be seen as down right criminal from all the hypocrites out there waiting to be told by their government when to celebrate America's exceptionalism.

You guys are to beholden to a nanny state and wont acknowledge good deeds unless Obama tells you too.

how is this an "agenda"? did he somehow force you to do community service? as i said, what better way to stick it to terrorists than to improve the country they tried to tear down, and on the anniversary of the day they tried to do it. and how is doing community service NOT honoring and remembering the people who dies and the troops fighting our wars?

Only a conservative could find something bad in the promotion of volunteerism.

yea, i really don't get it. i think this is a REALLY good idea. and even though i support the prez in general, i don't say that very often.

i just don't see whats "bad" about marking 9/11 as a national day of service and remembrance, and as i said, i wish bush had done it in 2002.

It's just partisan bullshit. A Democrat promoted something that is beneficial to everyone, obviously to a conservative that is blasphemy, since the Dems are working tirelessly to destroy the American way of life.

If Bush did it, Six would be squirting all over the place.

No, it was declared a day of "service" by a socialist messianic pig who's trying to destroy America.

    It's a day of remembrance.

Nothing more, and it's an insult to those who died for that messianic socialist pig to use their deaths to help destroy the nation.

Only an American can recognize the Socialist Messianic Pig's sheer opportunism in trying to turn what should be a day of remembrance and honor into a spring board for even more socialism.

uh, no. it was made a national day of service AND remembrance, a decision that got bipartisan support.
