If there is a U.S. Draft will you go or be a draft dodger?

I will personally go and fight for my country and will not run or burn draft cards like some cowards did in Veitnam. I think it is the American Patriotic thing to do. They have been talking about raising the cut off age from 37 to 45 which would increase troop strength. If the current Mid East crisis with Israel heats up and it escalates by us becoming invoved it might happen. Will you accept the draft or will you dodge the draft? I am sure there will be new punishments if it is called under the current administration for people who avoid it. Hell you might be considered a enemy combatant.

That "They have been talking about rasising the draft age" ended in February, when Congress voted down the suggestion.

    Just an FYI

Yes but anything can happen at anytime David and If this crisis escalates in the Mid East if Iran gets involved or Korea goes crazy I would guaranty Bush would ask congress to reinstate it. It is a legit question to see who would go or avoid it if it would happen.

Mr Duke, two things about Bush, as much as I do not like him - when he says he will or will not do something - he is so stubburn he stick to it right or wrong. He said he will not ask Congress to reinstate th draft. I am sure he won't, simply because he is too stubborn to go back on what he says - even if it is wrong.

It depends on why and how. If my country's draft is to an unconstitutional fight that puts America in more danger, I may opt the 2nd ammendment right of joining the Citizens Malitia instead.

The US Constitution does not give Congress the power to give war powers to the president without declaring war, despite the fact that have have done it a few times now. When they act outside out laws, it is the American's repsonsibillity to keep them accountabile.

Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security, will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.

I would go if called upon....but at 48 I doubt I'll get the call. My son is a 1st Lietenant in the Air Force currently training in Oklahoma. One of his best freinds served four years in the Navy and got out. When a freind of his was killed he joined the Army and is currently being trained in Texas to be an Army Medic with his ultimate goal being in a Ranger unit.

I have great respect for both....and all who have served....especially those who have gone voluntarily.

I already served the US myself back when I was young. But that, unfortunately, does not immunize a person from the draft later should it be (hypothetically) reinstated.

I am not at liberty to share details of my service experience, including the department, at this time. But the way things go, ask me again in another couple of decades.
