The ongoing racist undertone in the GOP

"Talking about race in American politics is uncomfortable and awkward. But it has to be said: There has been a racist undertone to many of the Republican attacks leveled against President Obama for the last three years, and in this dawning presidential campaign.

You can detect this undertone in the level of disrespect for this president that would be unthinkable were he not an African-American. Some earlier examples include: Rep. Joe Wilson shouting “you lie” at one of Mr. Obama’s first appearances before Congress, and House Speaker John Boehner rejecting Mr. Obama’s request to speak to a joint session of Congress—the first such denial in the history of our republic.

More recently, Representative Jim Sensenbrenner, in a conversation overheard at Reagan National Airport in Washington, said of Michelle Obama: “She lectures us on eating right while she has a 'fat ass' herself.” He offered a lame apology, but as Mary C. Curtis put it on the Washington Post’s new blog She the People: “Can you imagine how the incident would play out if an African American congressman made a crude remark about First Lady Laura Bush’s body? It certainly would have taken more than an insincere apology to wash that sin away.”

I'd call it rabid partisan divisiveness, and not racism.

Hillary Clinton was a recipient, too.

When we trivialize racism by over-attributing it, we do injustice to the very real problems of race in America.

This is what happens when over 8 years they allowed Bush and Cheney to liquified their brains to the point that it runs out of their ears.
All they know how do do after that is lie and hate continue to lie and hate.
    They've been trained.

It's may take another 20 years for that to wear off.

As late as yesterday the Romney campaign is still running radio ads claiming Obama ......"Doesn't understand this country."
Of course not........He's a N__g__r after all, right?

Ridicilous. It's merely an appeal to conservative values, which Republicans mischaracterize as American values.

Romney is no racist. He's actually a victim of religious bigotry.

I am a Liberal Dem, and shudder to think Romney would win. But branding him a racist is off the mark and beyond the pale.

Romney's kid is still out making cracks about his birth certificate as well. But they swear it's not his dad's message.

I and others are not trivializing racism. I would counter that to let this kind of behavior go unrecognized and unreferenced would marginalize the growing problem. Why should liberals walk on eggshells? That's a weakness of liberals, they bend so far over trying to be fair and benefit-of-the-doubt nice that they usually end up hosed down and knifed.
A race-baiter depends on the reluctance of society to broach the subject and call it for what it is.
Then, when they do, he/she calls foul and claims virginity and victimhood, and uses turnspeak to accuse the whistleblowers of "using the race card".

Then why be on the campaign trail making comments like "President Obama do not understand this country"?
Romney is not man enough to clarify the comment?
If the president does not understand this country..then what country does he understand?

Just ask Mitt's son he'll tell you.
