'Get it done,' Obama challenges GOP on debt talks

By DAVID ESPO - AP Special Correspondent | AP – 31 mins ago...
WASHINGTON (AP) — In a blunt challenge to Republicans in Congress, President Barack Obama insisted Wednesday that elimination of selected tax breaks for oil companies and the super-wealthy must be included in any deficit reduction plan.

"You stay here. Let's get it done," he all-but-lectured lawmakers, holding open the possibility of keeping Congress in Washington unless there is significant progress by week's end on a deal to cut deficits, raise the $14.3 trillion debt limit and avert a threatened financial crisis.

Any thoughts on who's right here?
Should he make Congress stay in session?

Certainly. These subsidies need to go. Why the Republicans don't think this is beyond me.

Here's my bottom-line on these disagreements in the form of a logical syllogism:

The better shape the economy is in by 2012 the better Obama & the Dems election chances are.
The worse shape the economy is in by 2012 the better the GOP feels its election chances are.
Therefore: Who has the real incentive to improve our economy now?

Anyone disagree with me? (seems pretty damn obvious to me!)

It's difficult for me to accept that any party would ruin the economy just to get control of government. That goes against everything I've learned about civics and ethics.

I really think that if he would be confrontational like this and use the bully pulpit more, his approval rating would be significantly higher.

He can keep a moderate, practical position, but it's for certain that most of his disapproval outside of the right exists because since January he's basically let the GOP control the debate, in the name of bipartisanship. And that's admirable... but Mr. President, these guys are flirting with economic disaster in the name of political expediency. The whole "we ain't raising the debt ceiling unless you do this, this and this" is nothing less than that.

You have a responsibility to collect heads when the situation requires.
Say what you need to say, but if it is "everyone who disagrees with me is x," then do us all a favor and shut the fuck up.

I'm a liberal. Guess what, we all are. It's not about liberal vs. not, it's about progressive vs. conservative.

    2 points...

    1. Repubs run the House now and need their feet held to the Fire, if President Obama can do this he will look better.
    2. Repubs will fail to understand.." Get It Done" what he should have said is.."GIT-R-DONE", that they understand..
