    Gingrich supports the Mandate!!

From the Department of Walk Backs, Gingrich and mandates

By Domenico Montanaro, Political Reporter, NBC News

As we noted in First Thoughts, Newt Gingrich on Meet the Press acknowledged his past support for an individual health-insurance mandate:

“I agree that all of us have a responsibility to help pay for health care. And I think that there are ways to do it that make most libertarians relatively happy. I've said consistently, where there's some requirement you either have health insurance or you post a bond or in some way you indicate you're going to be held accountable.”

But now Gingrich is walking that back. In a video posted on his Web site, he says:

"I am completely opposed to the Obamacare mandate on individuals. I fought it for two and half years at the Center for Health Transformation. You can see all the things we did to stop it at HealthTransformation.net. I am for the repeal of Obamacare and I am against any effort to impose a federal mandate on anyone because it is fundamentally wrong and I believe unconstitutional."

Well.. Looks like we have another flip flopper.. Either that or Gingrich just forget his republican play book.. And this guy wants to be president??

Gingrich is a corporatist. Why wouldn't he support this kind of subsidy to corporate insurance companies?

Like Romney, Gingrich truly supports the mandate, but he had to flip-flop on it now since the Republican base has been against it ever since it became Obama's pet project.

So you are admitting that the republican party essentially doesn't allow people to think for themselves?? Would you not also agree that there is something wrong there?? No party should deny their members the ability to think for themselves..

If he supports something as grossly unconstitutional as coercing individual citizens to give custom to private business, then he deserves as much support as our current joke of a President.

Jay.. It is no more unconstitutional than you knowing what your talking about.. It was a republican idea.. It is what Romney started in MA.. It is what republicans offered up as an option instead of Hillarycare.. So what makes his unconstitutional?? The fact that a democratic president got it passed or that he is black??

It is completely covered in the commerce clause.. You can't in any way shape or form prove that a person's decision to not get insurance will have no impact on the economy.. It is how states can have laws forcing you to have auto insurance to drive.. It is the same principle.. So get over it already.. All you are doing is making yourself look stupid..

The resident paleoconservative libertarian is to be to be surprised that Republicans are a) not of one mind and b) often propose unconstitutional things themselves?

The fact that a democratic president got it passed or that he is black??
    ...

    Fuck you.

Your ignorance is extreme but marginally tolerable; casual unsubstantiated accusations of racism FROM A MOD is absolutely inexcusable.
