    Credit where it's due

President Barack Obama says the uprisings across the Middle East offer a "huge opportunity" for the U.S. as a new generation awakens to opportunities in the larger world.
Obama describes the uprisings as "winds of freedom."
Exactly Barack! You have obviously been reading our forum! Where Oldschool has been preaching this far and wide! You deserve credit for nailing this one, yer just a lil late to the party......but I'm giving credit where it's due, kudos Mr. President.

Opportunity is exactly right. Huge opportunity is even more exactly right. We must look to these events as a giant opportunity, we have been awaiting this inevitable change for decades if not centuries. Enlightened and educated people throwing off oppressive governments, the human nature of self-determination.....it spreads like a seed in the very "winds of freedom" Obama speaks to here. This change is inevitable, Group.

Now.....focus now.....if yer an Iranian Mullah. If yer a militant Jihadist who relies on Islam and the 'plight of Muslims" to inspire violence. If yer a Saddam/Qaddafi like dictator opressing your people. If you're a Hugo Chavez or Chinese Premier...........and you have this stiff wind of freedom carrying seeds of democracy all about......clearly on a domino theory steam train....do you see opportunity that our President is intelligent enough to see? These events settling you into slumber each night or..........is it you today who is actually terrorized? Is it you who actually has trouble sleeping at night?

GW acted like a leader and did what was the right thing to do...now the fruit of that is being revealed (and the lefties will never acknowledge it). People living under oppression in the middle east needed a lift up, hope. We gave them a taste of freedom in Iraq...

I'm proud I was on the right side of this issue from the beginning instead of undermining my nation and those fighting for it...and the Iraqi people.

Look no further than rising food prices for a trigger. Bush may still plausibly claim the credit, because those rises are a direct result of his facilitation of the breaking of capitalism by speculators and investment bankers.

Egyptians do spend much of their money on food but relatively speaking

Egyptian consumer confidence jumps in Q1 2010, finds survey - Money - Zawya

Egypt's consumers in the Middle East weren't doing that bad. Food prices an ingredient, but far from the main.

In the case of Egypt it was probably the state of emergency laws, uncontrollable corruption, as well as economic issues including high unemployment, food price inflation, and low minimum wages. Eventually, people get tired of being poor and oppressed.

It was the split up of Sudan.

This was aided by the US by the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Obama administrations.

After the split of Sudan, the people of the other Muslim countries decided they wanted a say in their own lives, too. Thus began the fall of the dominoes.

One man in Tunisia who said enough is enough. He set himself and fire and the flames spread thru out the region, fireing up his fellow citizens, causing his Leader to be overthrown. causing Egypt to follow suit. Causing Libya to follow as well.

I'm not seeing how this is a huge opportunity for the US.

It's undeniably a huge opportunity for the people involved. Europe is concerned about the refugee flood. Where does the US come in?

I've been watching these stories since day one and I've not heard anyone talking about the US. They only time I've heard the US discussed in relation to these events is Egypt and Sudan's governments being US client states, and the potential military response in Libya.

What's the opportunity? Investment? The US made far far more by exploiting these people and subverting their freedoms for the past half century than it ever will by dealing with whatever pops up next.

Ideological opportunity? Not without losing Isreal.

    Can anyone explain?
