Only 1 in 6 Americans say that Election is a Mandate for Republican Rule

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...ndate-for-gop/

Fifty-two percent of people questioned in the poll say that Republican control of the House will be good for the country, with 39 percent saying it will be bad for the country. The GOP won a net gain of at least 60 seats in the House (with six contests still unresolved) to win back the chamber after four years of control by the Democrats.

But only one in three thinks the Republicans will do a better job than the Democrats in running the House, with just over one in five saying the GOP will do a worse job, and 44 percent saying there won't be much difference.

Only 32 percent say the new Congress will get more done that the current one, with just over one in four saying it will accomplish less, and 41 percent saying it won't make a difference.

Only 17 percent say the election results were a mandate for the GOP, with seven in ten saying that the midterms were more a rejection of the Democrats' policies.
This really should put Republican claims that 2010 is reflective of a newborn trend of support for the GOP and conservativism that will last evermore into the future, to bed. If the Republicans don't do what they say they are going to do, they will be tossed back out as fast as they were voted in. The pressure is on, Speaker Boehner, and the clock is ticking.
Say what you need to say, but if it is "everyone who disagrees with me is x," then do us all a favor and shut the fuck up.

I'm a liberal. Guess what, we all are. It's not about liberal vs. not, it's about progressive vs. conservative.

I totally agree with you. The Republicans will have to show the people that they are not the Democrats...and that they are not the Republicans of old...or they will get spanked in 2012.

More polls? Elections decide matters, not polls. Republicans should lead...and represent...not listen to polls, each candidate had to speak to their constituencies, each knoes what We the People want them doing.

The Republicans only have a majority in one of the houses of Congress currently. To think that they, by themselves, are going to affect any major changes is absurd. If we see any changes, it will be because the two parties have begun to actually work together to meet the challenges we face. Since there no longer is a need to attack everything that the Democrats propose in order to keep them from getting credit for any possible progress that might happen, we might actually begin to see some semblance of bipartisan action that could possibly even help our situation some. "Republicans of old"? They need to show they are the Republicans of old. Not these Neo-Con/Teabagger/gutless wimps who've passed as Republicans for the past 15-20 years.

We'll see won't we. But first, to qualify this remark, what wold you consider "major changes?"

For example, if tax cuts for all were extended....is that a major change...would it have happened should Dems have held onto power in the House.

Secondly, would Obamacare be opposed...the House going GOP will certainly see a bill come out of the House to either repeal or seriously alter Obamacare...is that a major change? We can argue whether the Senate would pass it on to the President and whether Obama would veto or not, but forcing the President or the Senate to oppose Obamacare. That a major change?

Finally, what you Dems seem blind to is the serious spanking you were handed out concerning State Legislatures and Governorships prior to all important redistricting. This has been a theme of mine since the election, Gdog, you Dems don't seem to realize how bad you were whooped. Let's hope reality spells it out for you over the next years.

Well given that they're going to extend the cuts in the lameduck when the Democrats are still in control, yeah it would have happened.

It's a major change, and it will go absolutely nowhere. Boehner has a lot to do if he's honest and, if he's smart, he will not allow his leadership to get tied up in a pointless battle over a law that was not one of the top voter issues in the election. They'll probably put repeal on the House floor and then let it die as a gesture to the Tea Party before moving on.

The election was not a mandate for Republican rule. People got fed up with Democratic waste and incompetence and if the Republicans do not actively work to make the voters happy then they will be voted out in turn 2 years from now. Gerrymandering and governor's mansions can't really stop the inevitable.

Meh.. you seem to forget that most people who voted for Obama and Democrats in 2008 didn't come out to vote this year. Mainly the 18-29 age group and minority groups. So what we saw was not "Americans changing their minds" it was just less Americans participating or "sharing their voice" this time around. ANOTHER thing to keep in mind is the fact that most of the Democrats who got voted out were the ones that leaned RIGHT. The more Left leaning Democrats kept their jobs.

Don't get too excited too fast CONS.
