In David Brooks column this week, he starts out describing, very favorably, a hypothetical common man of virtuous work ethic who becomes angry with the state of US politics. Worth reading here:

I'll use a Texas newspaper, so Six will read it: http://cache.dallasnews.com/sharedco....11e5ed42.html

The last two paragraphs sum up what he sees as the outcome of electing amateur legislators...

So when Ben looked around for leaders who might understand his outrage, he only found them among the ideological hard-liners.

In a few years' time, Ben is going to be disappointed again. He's going to find that the outsiders he sent to Washington just screamed at each other at ever higher decibels. He's going to find that he and voters like him unwittingly created a political culture in which compromise is impermissible, in which institutions are decimated by lone-wolf narcissists who have no interest in or talent for crafting legislation. Nothing will get done.

In a few years' time, Ben is going to look for something else. It will be interesting to see if, by that time, any moderates have had the foresight and energy to revive and define the free-labor tradition – a tradition that uses government to encourage work, to reward work, and to uphold the values at the core of Ben's life.

I read the complete article, sorry do not agree at all. The current crop of professional politicians we have had for the last 25 years have completely (both repubs/dems)ruined most of what was good in this country. From repealing glass steagal that helped regulate the financial industry (probably would have kept us from the subprime mess btw) to getting us into wars that are illegal and illegitimate.

Now we are at a crossroads in this country continue with same stupidity (There was a saying once that stated "insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results). So what is the establisment afraid of, I think there is a bigger agenda here.

Notice how now all these types of articles have came out about the problems with electing someone new, notice how when an incumbent gets kicked out who ever replaces him gets slammed by the media. Look at specter fliflopper all the way replaced in the primaries by an even more left leaning dem, and now that guy gets the label as to far left.

Look at Rand Paul they are throwing the whole kitchen sink at him and he hasnt even been elected he just won a primary.

NO Dave professional politicians have had there chance, they have fucked up imensley, and now they shall pay.

It is time for true change no more bullshit from professional politicians. I would be willing to bet that they will at the very least not do any worse of a job than the previous crop of shitbags.

I take it back there is one part I agree with "Money was taken from those who produced and used to bail out the reckless. This was an affront to the core values of Ben's life."

I dont get it Dave, why are you so for the professional politicians? What have they done in the last 25 years that has really helped the country?

I am independent, what I see is a financial system close to ruin, the currency devalued to the point that it could colapse within the next few years if not sooner, open borders that at the very least increase our risk of another terrorist attack (if you believe in that), two illegal wars being fought on a daily basis with no end in sight, and both sides (dems/repubs) wanting to instigate another war in Iran.

I mean if you are happy I guess go with it, but I see shitload of problems and people with solutions that may help out the globalists, but Fuck the american people completely.

Like I said previously the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Its pretty apparent that's going to happen.

Look what happened when Paul met the reality of applied politics.

Congress, despite what these geniuses of the frontier think, is about compromise. The republicans will rip themselves apart again. Its what they do. Its why you have "conservative democrats" and you don't have anything but loony tunes on the right.

I like having people who are competent working for me.

The current crop of yahoos coming from the Tea Party are one-trick ponies with no realistic vision, other than some archaic Jacksonian ideal.

Yes, Obama, Pelosi, Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the "competent" professional politicians have done a hell of a job.

Lyndon Johnson did a splendid job getting the Civil Rights Act passed. He did some bullshit, too. But on that he did the right thing.

I say bring on your screwballs. We need to squash the Tea Party and move on and the fastest way to do that is put a national camera in their faces and let them talk.

If they are so competent then why are we having all these issues, tea parties, coffee parties, major recession, and other problems that people are so up in arms about.

I mean do you really believe our current crop of people in the last 10 years have been competent? I know you voted for change, if you really want change vote your incumbents out whether they are Dem's or Repub's. If you have a dem vote for a new dem if thats what you like, but get rid of the current idiot.

What do ya really have to lose we are already on the brink of bankruptcy, depression, what have you, unless you think everything is turning around like the propaghanda ministers say.

I understand you dont like the Repubs but what is wrong with voting out the incumbent Democrat and voting in someone else new (Democrat)?

On a side note how are they supposed to become professional politicians w/o getting experience lol?
