Florida governor, trailing in Senate primary race, to run as independent

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Governor Charlie Crist of Florida, headed for defeat in the Republican Senate primary, intends to bolt the party and run as an independent, two confidants said yesterday, setting up an unpredictable three-way race for a seat that once seemed his to lose.

    http://www.boston.com/news/nation/ar...s_independent/

I say bravo to Crist, I hope he wins the senate seat and shows that it can be done. I would like to see more Independants winning elections. I would like to see more politicians in Washington not beholding to either party. With the country becoming more and more disgusted by partisan politics I think it makes complete sense.

Reading a little more about his past decisions it seems he was a republican who pissed off both his own and the democratic party, that has to be a good sign.

It would be nice to see a number of credible contenders nationwide dump their party and go Independant. Maybe Lieberman and Christ are just sore losers that use Independant status as their only hope but it would be nice to see them show it can be done, and it would be nice to see some start doing it for the right reasons. That being that they truely don't fit either mold.

Yes...! Bravo to Crist...! Bravo I say!

Yet another self-serving politician that will do anything it takes to get elected... I wonder if Crist is going to return the money that he took from Republican donors while he swore that he would never run as an independent.

Just a scant couple of weeks ago, Crist was prattling about how he was going to run as a Republican, win or lose.

And now he leaves no doubt that he is a liar.

But we're supposed to trust him, and even cheer?

    RIGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHTTT.....

I hope not. If the donations were to Crist then I will assume the donators supported him and not the repubs. If they were donating to him simply because he was a repub then they are partisan shitheads anyway and don't deserve it back.

Boy that liar word gets thrown around alot, it's hard to imagine any of them that aren't.

Well, only if you are sick of the partisan politics and would like to see another force in politics other than dem or repub.

Right... Supporting a candidate running as a Republican makes them shitheads that don't deserve their money back after the candidate lied to them.

Your own bias is on full display.

The guy lied. Period. Not only did the slime lie about it, he blamed rumours that he was going to run as an independent on the Rubio campaign.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/0..._n_529922.html

Crist claimed that Rubio was just trying to distract voters by starting a rumour campaign against him... LOL

Crist already reached out to Rahm Emanuel for help, but the calls went unanswered, because Democrats see this as an opportunity to split the vote and get Meeks in, where before Meeks didn't have a snowball's chance in hell.

Crist is the model for politicians that care for nothing beyond their own personal gain, and I'm glad he's left the Republican party.

I believe the point being made was that if they donated to him only because he had an R after his name, then they were "partisan shitheads". Not because they donated to a Republican. I might not include the "shithead" part, but anyone who donates to a candidate solely because of the party (any party) they belong to without regard for the candidate himself should definitely qualify as a "partisan".

Why does it have to be solely?

Supporting an overall party and candidates within it does not make one a blind partisan. That's why we have primaries, so people can choose the direction of the party based upon the candidate they support.

Moreover, Crist took funds from the party itself.

Also, I don't live in Florida, but if I had been a Crist supporter, I would damned sure want my money back after he revealed himself to be a liar.

The guy vehemently said that he would win or lose as a Republican, and blamed Rubio for slandering him, but he lied brazenly.

How could anyone think they can trust him now?

His credibility is total shit, and Prag is just happy because he sees it as hurting Republicans.

But hey Prag, I have news for you... Crist leaving our party helps us, not the other way around... And Rubio is going to win.

I don't think it's possible to win either way in this race. Both of them worry me, and if either of them are socially conservative, then that's a dealbreaker.
