Celebs Get Away with too Much

Not that I have anything against Heather Locklear, but it gets tiring how celebs are never punished as harshly as any regular Joe Schmo....it makes me laugh when they say in this article, Locklear's alleged offense is a misdemeanor, but the actress could see some jail time, it's almost laughable.

Like they would throw her in jail..... celebs get away with way too much just because of their status....and it's getting ridiculous.

Actress Heather Locklear is having behind-the-wheel trouble again; the 'Melrose Place' star is accused of hitting a no-parking sign on a public street early Saturday morning near her home, according to PEOPLE. Police say Locklear left the scene without notifying anyone. Locklear's alleged offense is a misdemeanor, but the actress could see some jail time -- she is already on probation for pleading no contest to reckless driving in 2008 following her drunken-driving arrest in Santa Barbara.

"If it's found she's in violation of her probation, she could be facing a maximum of 90 days in custody," Santa Barbara Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter said.
The actress, who owns a black 2005 BMW, was cited for the hit-and-run after police examined debris left at the scene and traced it back to her car, sheriff's spokesman Ross Bonfiglio tells PEOPLE.

"While Locklear was technically arrested, she was not handcuffed or taken to a station because it was just a misdemeanor charge," Bonfiglio says. "She was cooperative, but I can't give any information about any statements she made. She was cited and released. She signed a document stating she would make a court appearance."

Locklear's attorney Blair Berk insists that no evidence has yet put his client behind the wheel at the time of the incident.

"Ms. Locklear was cited with a misdemeanor traffic ticket as she is the registered owner of the vehicle. She was never taken into custody," Berk says. "The matter is still being looked into as it is not yet clear who was driving the vehicle."

No one was injured in the crash, which was reported to police by a neighbor.

"It appears she drove up on a curb and hit the sign," says Bonfiglio. "There's no indication alcohol was involved. We don't know if anyone was in the car with her at the time."

Locklear's court date is set for May 17.

Stars and the wealthy see a different flavour of justice. They have the ability to pay their way out in many cases. Look at the case with Cameron Douglas. He should have gotten ten years. He got five. It is not right or fair and shows the American system of justice to be very flawed.

Actually, that's not quite true. Douglas could have gotten anywhere from two years to ten, with ten being the max. And his defense attorney was arguing for long term rehab, plus community service, so he basically got a middle range on the sentencing, and the defense and his parents pleas for lenience went pretty much unheeded. Then again, Cameron's gotten breaks before.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.

The other, of course, involves Hobbits and Orcs.

This was not his first offense. How many others have gotten break after break that seems a slap on the hand? Stars receive a different type of justice.

    Some examples:
    21. Steve-O

This man is crazy for sure, you will know that if you have seen him in Jackass where he is a real daredevil performer. He’s also been in trouble with the law several times, in the U.S. as well as in Sweden. In 2002 he was arrested and charged for obscenity and assault. After paying a lot of money in bond he was sentenced one year supervised probation. The year after he was arrested in Sweden for possession of marijuana and exstacy and had to pay a $6.700 fine. In march 2008 he was arrested once again for possession of a controlled substance and vandalism. He’s now on a treatment center and hoping to get free from the drugs.

    2. Lindsay Lohan

This girl started her career early and she’s been acting in Freaky Friday, Just my Luck, Herbie: Fully Loaded and Mean Girls for example. Unfortunately she’s been having problems with drugs and in 2007 she was arrested and charged for cocaine possession. Just a few months later she was arrested again for possessing of cocaine, transporting narcotics and driving under influence of drugs. She was convicted and the sentence was one day in jail, 10 days of community service, three years on probation and she was ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol education program.

    39. Kim Delaney

You might know Kim from the film The Force, or maybe from the television show NYPD Blue, which also gave her an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress. The police however knows her from something else since she was arrested for driving drunk in 2002. This gave her a $300 fine and two years probation.

    31. Natasha Lyonne

You probably saw this girl in American Pie 2 where she played Jessica. She’s a talented actress but also well known by the police. In 2001 she was arrested for driving drunk and the year after she got sentenced to 6 months probation, $750 fine and wasn’t allowed to drive for 6 months. In 2005 she was arrested again and charged for criminal mischief, harassment and trespassing and was sentenced to conditional discharge.

oh and let's no forget OJ....thankfully he is now where he belongs.....

    24. O.J. Simpson

This guy used to be an American football player in the 60’s and 70’s but sadly he’s mostly famous for his crimes. In 1994 he was charged for the murder of his wife Nicole Simpson and a friend of hers. Eventually he was found not guilty, but a civil trial found him liable for their deaths. Five years before that Simpson was sentenced to paying fines and 200 hours community service for beating his wife. In 2007 Simpson was arrested and charged for multiple felonies such as kidnapping with deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon and bruglary to mention some of them. He’s now risking to be put in prison with a life sentence.

What's your point? I can't tell you how many stories I've seen in my local paper about somebody who doesn't get any serios jail time for multiple drunk driving arrests until after they hit and kill someone else. The same with some folks who only have drug use charges, and not drug dealing charges.

I think it seems more prevalent with celebrities, because every single time they are arrested, it makes headline news, whereas your average joe is listed on page 7 of the local section, if he's listed at all.
