'Get it done,' Obama challenges GOP on debt talks

By DAVID ESPO - AP Special Correspondent | AP – 31 mins ago...
WASHINGTON (AP) — In a blunt challenge to Republicans in Congress, President Barack Obama insisted Wednesday that elimination of selected tax breaks for oil companies and the super-wealthy must be included in any deficit reduction plan.

"You stay here. Let's get it done," he all-but-lectured lawmakers, holding open the possibility of keeping Congress in Washington unless there is significant progress by week's end on a deal to cut deficits, raise the $14.3 trillion debt limit and avert a threatened financial crisis.

Any thoughts on who's right here?
Should he make Congress stay in session?
He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.

How can the president make them stay? Not that I don't agree that they need to get this done, but I don't think the president can make them do anything.

He has the power to call them back into session.

They should all be locked in a steel cage together until they finish their work. Of course, after their job is done they should not be let out of the cage.

It would be classic if the repubs pulled a Wisconsin and fled the country.

Sorry, that was funny. Not when you consider the stakes, but still, funny.

I think a little tit-for-tat is in order. If he ignores the Constitutional authority of congress to declare war, why shouldn't congress ignore Constitutional powers reserved for the president? Good for the goose, good for the gander.
