Idaho Joins the Fray With Bill Against Teachers Unions

Idaho bill would take away power of teachers union - Yahoo! News

Looks like Idaho is joining with other states to cut the power of public unions..

how many does this make now?

The legislation, which supporters have said is necessary to help rein in education spending, also would eliminate teacher tenure, limit the duration of teachers' labor contracts to one year and remove seniority as a factor in determining the order of any teacher layoffs.
Moreover, it would bar collective bargaining by a teachers' union altogether unless the union local could prove that it represented more than 50 percent of the teachers in that school district.

Because whenever unlimited power and self righteous compassion are united, you end up with a bunch of self righteous pricks spending other people's money and patting themselves on the back for being compassionate.

Leave the teachers alone. They are one of this country's greatest commodities, and this collective bargaining has nothing to do with balancing the budget. It is union busting, plain and simple.

If going after the teachers unions means firing rubber room teachers, than kudos to Idaho.

We all know it's the fault of teachers that our state budgets are such a mess. Just like entitlement programs in the federal government are what caused our federal budget deficit. All of our economic problems are caused by teachers and poor people.

This country has completely lost it's mind. It's quite frightening. I hope the teachers of Idaho do as the union workers in WI have done.

Entitlement Program (left unchecked) are a huge problem for our fiscal realities. And, btw, since when is it the government's role to get involved with people's retirement and healthcare? It's government gone wild!

Yeah but you don't know why. I do, you were told it is conservative. That is a lie, but you fail to see it. Tell you what neocon giving trillions to banks doesn't bother you, hell the idiot Bush is complicit in that crime, but the middle class frightens you.

Entitlement means something given for nothing. Retirement is paid for, too bad you wont get it, too bad you still think only the unions will be clipped. You will understand soon enough how ever, and if you have been investing in a 401, well that 'entitlement' is history as it is all invested in the worthless MBS as is the munis, and that is driving the states crisis.

The problem is that with all the spending on education the improvements should be noticable. The fact is no matter how much education is funded the kids are not benefitting the way they should. That means a number of teachers are not doing the job and need to be removed. However, the teachers union makes this almost impossible. The union would do alot for its cause if it allowed easier removal of bad teachers and during times of financial layoffs.

My point is that this economic downturn that we have been experiencing the past couple of years was not caused by teachers or poor people. Why are we going after them so aggressively? In the meantime, the people who caused all of this are swimming in money and demanding that they not pay for their crimes and that they not be required to pay their fair share of taxes. And they're getting away with it while we argue about how awful unions are. We are such suckers, I guess we deserve what we're getting.
