I always find it odd that those who claim that the "general welfare clause has nothing to do with entitlements" pretty much always forgets to add "except for the ones I agree with" and in the case of conservatives that usually means the military industrial complex, any pork barrel project that means money for my state or district, any group/charity/church/religious organization that is against abortion, gay marriage, and/or illegal or for that matter legal immigration and of course anything that "helps the stockmarket or big business"....there are more but I think you get the point.

One mans entitlement is another mans defense appropriation, research grant, adoption funding, or "business stimulus".

There is also the simple fact that for all the conservative voters who claim that they hate social security, medicaid, medicare, and all the other "socialist" policies "foisted on them by liberals they NEVER seem to vote in anyone who agrees with their "deep seated and god fearing patriotic belief". TO make matters more even worse and dare I say hypocritical...well that answers that....what makes the entire argument hypocritical is the simple fact that so called "fiscal conservatives" always seem to vote the same bum back in regardless of their voting record or proven track record of not doing anything but paying lip service to their supposedly sincere desire.

I guess what Im saying is enough with the sanctimonious whining about how bad democrats and liberals are about entitlements and this laughable fig leaf that is tossed out time and time after time about how much better it would be with "the conservatives" in power...the fact is, they have been in power on numerous occasions and even when holding all three houses have spent more and created bigger deficits then the dems. And yes I include the entitlements that you say you and yours hate while sucking off the same public welfare teat as mythical cadillac driving welfare queen....oh wait she's not mythical she's....gasp.....a "conservative".

And she is the lifeblood of your party. Shoot if the Conservative Welfare Queens all decided this election cycle to actually vote out the bums currently running their party you can damn well bet that will make sure that "her entitlements" are not on the table.

Entitlements is really just a codeword for "social programs I hate" just like neocon is just a codeword for Conservatives who have let themselves get caught giving Conservatives the things they ask for when polled in their home State/Districts.

So tell me am I reading this wrong? Between corporate welfare and the Conservative welfare queens you all are already spending more on social welfare then we do for the poorest Americans and now I am reading on these very forums "how survival of the fittest" needs to come into play with healthcare.....it seems that the reality is not that you hate entitlements but rather you hate that everyone else MIGHT actually GET entitlements like the ones the most stalwart supporters of your ideology are already getting.

What I always find odd is the proponents of more and bigger government, more entitlement bureaucracies and statism criticize the very government they want more of.

    Odd, indeed.

What I find strange is people that complain about others in real vague terms, almost like they're insinuating something about someone, but maybe not quite... you just never know.

    odd indeed.

I'll take a moment to agree with your above perceptive post regarding vague insinuations that may be about someone, but maybe not quite...& you're right........ you just never know.

If you are in fact really agreeing with me then I find that quite peculiar. If not, then it is weird in a completely different way.

I am in fact agreeing with .....someone...I guess. Then again, maybe my agreement is a subtle form of disagreement....in a peculiar way, which can be construed to be both weird & different in a very peculiar way???

    VERY odd indeed!

There's a mundane practicality involved with clubbing a baby seal...you just want a pelt with no holes in it, but there's something to be said about the subtle nuances of swinging the bat.

oh contraire, my vague and tap dancing friend....I did not criticize gvt but rather Conservatives who run government badly because they cannot balance the publically stated desires of their constituents with their anonomously stated polling numbers.

I personally think that on certain issues gvt is the best answer (healthcare, business regulation and enforcement, etc)and PUBLICLY say so pretty much daily. Oh to be sure regardless of administration/politician their will be things I disagree with but again my disagreements on those issues I deem important actually match what I say when asked on a forum or on a poll....and more importantly in the voting booth. My Senator for most of my voting life...Carl Levin. Thats one liberal dude.

Conservatives...ie...Republicans....have been screaming and whining about "Entitlements" since the new deal and yet when polled invariable it comes out that the most conservative districts WANT certain entitlements...as long as they dont have to give their name and this carries over into the voting booth time and again.

On an artistic level, I guess I understand the skill that tap dancing exhibits...... in that it allows one to be the center of attention without the need to really commit to a meaningful form of art. Still, I think the most proficient artists must be a little underweight in their footwear...I would imagine. (like this guy for example)
