Gov. Mark Sanford says he is publicly apologizing for letting down South Carolinians after admitting he was having an affair during a press conference at the statehouse in Columbia Wednesday.

Apologizing to his wife, sons and all of South Carolina, Sanford says he has engaged in a relationship with a "dear friend" from Argentina.
Sanford confessed the relationship between him and the unidentified woman began very innocently through emails, and says over the past year developed into much more than a simple friendship. Since the development of the relationship, Sanford says he has seen the woman three times.

"I hurt you all, I hurt my wife, I hurt my boys," said Sanford, with tears in his eyes. "All I can say is ‘I apologize.'"

That's some real family values you all have got there. Too bad he can't find a way to blame it on gay marriage.

That was fast: The Republican Governors Association just announced that Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour -- already "in line" to take the chairmanship of the RGA -- has assumed it.

" As a former RNC chairman and one of the best governors in the country, no one is better positioned to takeover as RGA chairman than Governor Barbour," executive director Nick Ayers said in a statement.

Too bad he can't find a way to blame it on gay marriage.

I have great faith in the ability of right-wingers to completely dismiss this hypocrisy, and praise the guy for being honest and coming clean about his affair. I'm sure we'll hear all about the great work he is doing to repair his marriage and his relationships with his children, and how Jesus is helping him along. Sort of like how they tried to spin Palin's pregnant daughter into an example of family values in action.

There are hypocrites on the right...no doubt...but they are by no means the only hypocrites in politics. Do we really need to get into posting all those on the left and right who have had affairs, used their spouses as props as they tearfully admit their failures?

gosh this reminds me of John Kennedy, Bill Clinton , and a host of other politicians ... looks like government as usual.. I am just curious as to who paid for the trip to argentina.

The left generally doesn't tout morals and family values.

The left has yet to even try to impeach any of the many, many Republican senators and congressman who have been outed for their infidelity.

They don't crusade to have the 10 Commandments posted on the public square.

They don't claim gay marriage will erode the "sanctity of marriage".

The so called "moral majority" is looking like a bunch of phony assed philanderers who don't practice what they try to legislate.

Damn him!! all to hell!! I always thought highly of him until this. Is their not a politician out there that is not a self serving bastard?
