No formal press conference in 215 days
President Obama, who pledged to establish the most open and transparent administration in history, on Monday surpasses his predecessor's record for avoiding a full-fledged question-and-answer session with White House reporters in a formal press conference.
President George W. Bush's longest stretch between prime-time, nationally televised press conferences was 214 days, from April 4 to Nov. 4, 2004. Mr. Obama tops that record on Monday, going 215 days - stretching back to July 22, according to records kept by CBS Radio's veteran reporter Mark Knoller....

He is not hiding from reading statements on TV. He is hiding from answerering questions. The last time he had a press conference was when he made the comments about the Harvard cop arresting the professor, saying the cop "acted stupidly". That was a long time ago. About 4.5 million jobs lost ago. I think I will call the White Housel

He answered questions from republicans recently and he said "the only lobbyists in my administration are
hold overs from the last". The problem with him speaking in un-scripted situations is his true character
shows through, like "I just want to spread the wealth around" or his real affiliations with ACORN, SEIU, etc.

Not that I would want to give him any help getting a second term but there is such thing
as over exposure, if he keeps up at this rate people are just going to be plain worn out
on him by 2012.

To be fair Bush's strength was really ad hoc talking. Folks like to pick and choose some dumb stuff he might have said but I've seen him speak off-the-cuff before and he's an extremely good speaker. Obama is a more measured guys who strength is more on the prepared speech.
I'm not saying either is good or bad, I guess what I'm trying to say is that all folks are different and I'm not surprised that there is some variance in these numbers. I don't fault folks for playing to their strengths.
