On Tuesday, Obama explicitly raised the prospect of legal consequences for Bush administration officials who authorized the techniques applied to "high value" terrorism suspects, and said if Congress is intent on investigating the tactics, an independent commission might provide a less partisan forum than a congressional panel.

It certainly appears that Obama is open to the idea of an independant investigation without partisan interference.

Obama opened up a can of worms and now wishes he could get them all back in. He has done irreparable harm to our intelligence gathering and may soon have blood on his hands because of it. He choose to politicize it, use those who protected our country from harm as pawns to platcate the radical leftest.

I say bring it on and make the case that it would have been the higher moral ground to not use these techniques, to have allowed the thousands of deaths and the destruction to have occured. And when you lock the cell doors be sure you the the Dems in there too.

Obama needs to hold out the faint possiblity of investigation and prosecution of Bush Admin. officials to his most loyal political base. The left wing Bush haters.

But he is smart enough to realize that prosecuting Bush officials would touch off a political war in the U.S. not seen since the Federalists and Democrat Republicans squared off around 1800.

Obama's problem in painfully obvious, a full blown investigation would reveal what we all know and have known all along, the peace loving dems are complicit. A guilty verdict for one would result locking the entire government in prison.

That in its own right is a good enough reason to allow the investigations.
