The proposal seeks to put "American families and small business owners in control of their own health care," the official said. It stems from discussions that have taken place with the House and Senate, the official said.

Obama will propose changes that include eliminating the so-called "Nebraska deal," a provision worked in by Sen. Ben Nelson, a Nebraska Democrat, that exempts that state from paying increased Medicaid expenses, the official said.

The president also plans to include a series of measures proposed by Republicans to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse, and the introduction of a new provision to prevent arbitrary insurance rate hikes such as a recent 39 percent increase in California.

A televised bipartisan discussion on health care is scheduled to take place Thursday.

Obama believes the discussion "will be the most productive if Democrats come to the table with a consolidated proposal" -- what the president is releasing Monday, the official said.

Obama "hopes the Republicans will follow suit and come with their own unified proposal," the official said. "He'll be open to Republican ideas, and he hopes they'll be open to ours."

And I agree that single payer is the way to go. However, at this point I will take this and run with it in the hopes of a better future.

I find it both laughable and disgraceful that Obama has waited until now to "COME FORWARD WITH HIS PLAN !!!!!!!" <insert trumpet fanfare here> After hiding behind Pelosi and Reid for a year the Great Hope-and-Change-Master is going to have the Dems use reconciliation to push this horrific Frankenstein's monster of legislation through. Pitiful.

Even if this was good legislation, which it is not, Obama is going to be known as the Democrat's Custer and November is going to be their Little Big Horn.

That was also a horrible thing. Not as bad because of the lesser magnitude of $$$$, but equally foul in concept.

While it would have been nice if he would have come forward sooner lets be honest Mr. Obama was hoping that Repubs would do something besides whine and cry about how unfair it is and actually offer something constructive....turns out they had pretty much nothing that wasn't laughably useless as a means to bring down costs. The pittance of semi decent ideas they recycled been actually put forth in Mr. Obama's plan. Damn him and his desire to actually be bipartisan.

Of course I think he should have just pushed through single payer and told your petulant whiny ass party to eat poo and die especially given the history of fucking up the economy and spending us into a hole that seems to be the only thing the right has for policy.

As to your opinion on the legislation my bet is you haven't even read it.....

Bi-Partisan my ass. He doesn't need Republican support for just 51 votes. And his plan ? 1 trillion of the next ten years when we currently have NO MONEY is just a doozie of an idea. Sounds like more liberal math to me.

    Except...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The revised healthcare overhaul in the Senate would cut the federal deficit by $132 billion over 10 years, non-partisan budget analysts said on Saturday.
