So, we adopted a shelter dog today. He's awesome. There were so many perfect dogs at that shelter... it was heartbreaking... I wish we could adopt 3 more.

Anyway, I love dogs and they love me. You should adopt a dog too. That is my opinion and I am sticking to it. Here is a picture of my new dog and my old dog. They still haven't worked everything out, but they will.

The one on the right just hit the doggie lotto. Seriously. He's handling it very well so far.

I have two pound puppies myself. We got them on the same day and they are loved by my girls. I'm glad we rescued them.

He got the whole package. It turns out that he loves tennis balls more than just about anything but my wife. Today he is getting his balls cut off, so that is a little below average for him.

Your shelter doesn't do the spay and neuter before the adoption?

Technically they require spay/neuter as "a condition of adoption". I suspect they determine exactly how to implement that on a case by case basis. We took him home Monday with the promise that we would return him on Wednesday for the procedure and they made us pay for the procedure on Monday. They were cool about it and we are cool about it.

An interesting aside: Our other dog is not fixed. Most shelters and rescues won't even talk to you if you have an unfixed dog in your home. We had to show the shelter his official AKC papers in order for them to allow this adoption. The big dog has a moderately famous, in the dog world, grandfather. He's been bred once and we will breed him once more. His genes and his temperament should be passed on.
