Cant adress the OP ?? He was basically allowed to live in an apartment for 5 years without paying rent and didn't report it as income. Ring a bell ??? Im assuming you agree that politicians should have a completely different set of rules than everyone else.

Could someone please quote the section of the tax code that says someone living rent-free must declare the imputed rent as income? Because I find it hard to believe that everyone who crashes on a friend's couch or is living in their parents' basement suddenly has a tax problem.

sure. But can you imagine politicians getting the free use of lots of things from people. Apartments, cars, airplanes. Its called getting a gift and not reporting it. it is a crime and especially diabolical for a politician as it is patronage.

Not every free use of something constitutes income under every circumstance. What I am interested in knowing, if you are able to show me the law that says so, is why is it "income" when Emanuel does it, but not when Joe Public is crashing on his friend's couch?

Can you answer that question? Or is discussion only allowed on the OP on the condition that one accepts all the allegations contained therein as fact?
