So the surge of Afghanistan has begun. The military has pushed into the Helmand region. The town they are fighting for has been heavily booby trapped. Five NATO soldiers are dead three of them are US military. There is something I find very disturbing in the article I have read about it. Look below:

    http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE61B1ZJ20100213

"...Marines in helicopters landed in Marjah district, the last big Taliban stronghold in Helmand province, in the first hours of a NATO campaign to impose government control on rebel-held areas before U.S. forces start a planned 2011 drawdown.

They fired at least four rockets at militants who attacked from compounds near the bazaar in Marjah town. Hours later, the area was still gripped by the firefight...."

so we think we will accomplish something there by telling the enemy that we will fight for a year or so and then start removing our troops? What do you think they will do? They will do just what they are doing now in this battle. They will fight and kill some US soldiers and retreat and boobytrap everything and probably they will get the idea of killing some locals in the process and blame it on the US.

So this is our plan? It sucks!

The Taliban will fight, kill a few, pull back, disperse. They will go have some tea and wait. There is no hurry when you know your enemy will leave in a year and a half. Along the way they will kill more Americans. It is fool hearty to announce troop withdrawal dates when you are adding the troops. What is Obama thinking?

Bobo, the Post Turtle, is clueless.

The really disturbing thing is that the generals know this will not work but they, the generals, will not say anything because they, the generals, are more interested in saving and protecting their "stars" than the lives of their soldiers.

    I've seen this before.....Veitnam. Sad.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

So Obama is directly running the wars. Where are all the generals and admirals?

    ....maybe.....

You know the Catherine Tate show?? I just discovered it the other week and I'm loving it. Bernie's great, but there are several characters on the show that I like better. I see 2lane as more of a Lauren Cooper kind of guy, I think.

I thought you loved surges JOM...you used to argue in favor of Bush's. Also...didn't the Bush surge announce in advance what they planned to do and which areas they would concentrate on? Did they not face booby traps and IEDs? Why O why do you dissaprove of this one so much?

It's going to work well enough.

Karzi has to start figuring out how to take the 10k tribes that inhabit his borders, and find enough commonality to build a lasting nation. If "regime change" taught us anything, it's that at the end of it all, it's up to the citizens to make it work.
When it comes to GOP stupidity, there's no need to make stuff up.

No that's Kristen Wiig from SNL as Gilly. I put it up to respond to a post in the lounge, I'll replace it as soon as I can come up with something else.
