Thread: Gitmo transparency

OK Obama said he wants transparency right? So he has announced he will close Gitmo. Surely he has a plan first before making this announcement right? Atleast I hope he has a plan. surely he is not so stupid as to announce such a thing without a plan. so where is the transparency? what is his plan? Where are these detainees going and when are they going? What is the plan?

He may not have a plan but he has a TIMETABLE. And if he still has no plan when the time is up he will just extend the timetable.

The first step is admitting Gitmo was wrong from the beginning. And he's done that.

He has no plan. But you guys will make excuses for his inneptitude all day long. What is going to happen with the Gitmo detanees? what? He announces the closing without any answers. He does not know what he is doing.

When the previous administration couldn't come up with an answer in 8 years.

I'm sure Obama will do something reasonable, like send most of them back to their home countries or use American prisons for anyone we have an actual case against.

He will just move them to other prisons on military bases. Don't worry JOM, torture will continue.

Why?...did the Bush adminstration choose to reveal/leak all sorts of Intelligence operations that in all other wars, including the relatively transparent Vietnam War, were allways denied by government? In the past civilians wouldn't even know about gitmo, or waterboarding, or warrantless tapping unless some reporter dug deap. I'm sure there is way crazier black ops stuff going on but.....

I find it hard to believe Bush wanted to share.

Oh!...and JOM...WTF...Obama said clearly when signing the Gitmo closure on every network..."it's going to take at least a year to sort out the details" Mark your calender for February 2010 and I'm sure you'll have a much more robust list of "fears of the unknown".

If Obama is smart...he will give ex detainees fair documented trials under our system of justice. Incarcerate those found guilty, and release those found innocent.

Then...if those released AlQueda private citizens either attempted to, or conspired to, or did kill American private citizens. Somebody not in American government who decided they did needs to send black ops non American citizens to assassinate them wherever they go. Then deny it, and have no record of it. And we don't ruin our own reputation.

See...Bush betrayed the US with his symbolic use of fake transparancy... which he tried to use to make us all feel the war was neccessary...to get votes.

I announced my plan to pull up the Ivy in my backyard. I'm not sure exactly how much time it will take. I'm not sure wether or not I'll rent a yard waste dumpster or fill my municipal can for 50 weeks. Maybe some of my apointees will have some good ideas along the way. As long as I believe in the original Goldwater values...the Ivy will be gone before next year, and it will not destroy an expensive fence 7 years early and piss off my neighbors.

I will never let Ivy dictate my actions as a fence owner and neighbor again.
