While Obama has now halted prosecutions at Gitmo in order to review each case, the Bush era myths have resurfaced among partisan Republicans that these prisoners are all "terrorists" and a "threat" to the U.S.

But no matter how far the post 9-11, worn out scare tactics go, these facts remain:

Gitmo holds about 245 detainees now, and only 21 of them have been charged with a crime. 60 others have been cleared for release, and the remaining are in limbo, not charged with a crime and not released.

Since Oct. 2001, 775 detainees have been brought there, and approximately 420 have been released without charge.

Only 3 have been convicted.

But don't tell some people the facts, because they won't believe you. Some comments on Fox News' "You Decide":

Are you kidding? If these folks are so wonderful, I wonder if they’d be welcome in the Lincoln bedroom. I hope our new president comes to better senses soon and his advisors are fired. The fact that none of our overseas critics will take them should tell us something.

Gitmo should stay, we should ALL take a strong stance in defense of our country and against the terrorist movement.

People dont understand the constitution….. The constitution appeals to Americans…. not people who bring terror to America…. after all the terrorists have been executed then let the Military decide upon facts…. i personally dont want the base closed because i dont want to see the future terrorists of the world on MY American soil.

I guess if Obama wants to split this country into two separate nations he is on his way to doing so. I just want to be in the one he is not the president of.
