Reviewing War Powers of the Executive

In a little-noticed move Tuesday, House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers, Jr. introduced legislation aimed at creating a commission to investigate the "broad range" of "unreviewable war powers" enacted under the presidency of George W. Bush.

While providing few details in his press release, Conyers said the bill would "establish a Blue Ribbon Commission comprised of experts outside government service to investigate the broad range of policies of the Bush administration that were undertaken by the Bush administration under claims of unreviewable war powers."

It's about time someone on the hill has endeavored to take action against a government run a muck with power. Hopefully this legislation will get the votes it needs to bring an end to the unbridled reach of power our presidents are now afforded.

    Pretty much.

Another interesting thing, I find, is that this thread takes the current admin to task, and... nothing.

But we can have 50 hojillion posts about Obama's birth record or Blago or Palin's viability in 2012.

    Shameful.

And how did he abuse those powers ? Uhm, proof please not some lame brained liberal drool about torture or Abu Garaib. It's a witch hunt dirven by partisan hacks that serves no purpose. What a great way to waste tax payer dollars.

More than happy to oblige, but I'm curious... why is anything torture-related exempt? Is that an admission of fault regarding torture policies? I mean, if that's what it is, I'd be more than happy to move on to other examples.

I am not partisan, so here goes, phone taps. That alone should be evidence of abuse and will save me from typing a list as long as my leg.
