Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has asked most Bush administration political appointees except those targeted for dismissal to stay on in the Pentagon until replaced by the Obama administration in the coming months.

"I have received authorization from the president-elect's transition team to extend a number of Department of Defense political appointees an invitation to voluntarily remain in their current positions until replaced," Mr. Gates said in an Dec. 19 e-mail to political appointees.

Let's look at it this way.

Obama sets the plan. I would think you would want those most familiar with the situation to implement the plan. Does that make more sense?

Not at all... not when you've been screaming the last 8 months that it was this team of people that has failed in their strategy.

I really thought when Obama was talking Change, and a new direction he had an idea what that meant? lol Why would keep everything the same, and then claim it's different?

I would expect that when defining change, you would see a philosophical difference in the approach that Obama is taking. That is what I see. Now, should he have had a complete change and fired all of the generals?

What change was Obama talking about.

If there was 1 issue you could point at and say Obama disagreed with, hated about the Bush administration it was the strategies on the war on terror. Obama made it very clear from all the other issues that his policy on the war will be extremely different than Bush's.

And what does he do? Hires Bush's strategy team to make it happen? lol

You know what that tells me. It was just a bunch of words for Obama... Obama was full of shit. He didn't have a plan, he doesn't have a plan. He was just saying those things because the media, and the dems have made an easy target of Bush.

This is the reality I mentioned before... It was easy for Obama to make big promises of change when he was on the campaign trail... but when you're sitting in the big chair, and you actually have the responsiblity... everything changes.

I predicted this Nick... once again. I said Obama will not change a damn thing with the war. The dems have known all the time Bush's policies were right, were working. They attacked it because it was easy to do... and everything is political with the dems. They don't care men and women were dieing... their negative propaganda aided in their victory for power... even though it cost American lives.

Yes.... I would think if you were offering a legitimate argument of change... and you were making specific accusations of failure about these same people... you would know what you were talking about.... and you certainly would have a plan to implement when you took over.

It questions the legitimacy of Obama. Does Obama military, foreign relation, and national security advisors have a their own mandate on this war... or was all the speech's just political rheotoric, and fluff.

It's becoming clear what the answer is to that question. Obama is in panic mode... he doesn't know what to do next, so he's doing nothing. Typical of demcorats over the last 2 years.

except by "strategy team" you mean a bunch of underlings. the only holdover of any importance is gates. cheney, rumsfeld, tenet, libby, gonzalez, wolfowitz, rice and even powel are all gone.
