Mackey wrote an op-ed last week that stated, “The last thing our country needs is a massive new health care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits and move us much closer to a government takeover of our health care system.” Apparently, this has created a large boycott of Whole Foods, and the company is concerned.

He also had an 8 point plan, including these four:

-Remove the legal obstacles that slow the creation of high-deductible health insurance plans and health savings accounts (HSAs).

-Repeal all state laws which prevent insurance companies from competing across state lines.

-Enact tort reform to end the ruinous lawsuits that force doctors to pay insurance costs of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

-Revise tax forms to make it easier for individuals to make a voluntary, tax-deductible donation to help the millions of people who have no insurance and aren’t covered by Medicare, Medicaid or the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.

I think the boycott is a highly reactionary thing to do, considering that Whole Foods is a shining example of everything we want to see in a corporation. They have high standards on what products they sell, which must include humane treatment of animals and environmental responsibility. They also pay their employees well with great benefits. While their customers may not agree with Mackey's opinion on health care, the least they could do is rise up and transcend the reactionary politics of the Republicans, and accept his opinion with disagreement. But no, they are going to fuel the fire set by the nonsense coming from the likes of Sarah Palin.

A state law should be no more if it does not fall in line with the Constitution and/or worksagainst the people's interest.

well IDK about other areas but around here whole foods customers seem to be hippie freaks anyways so it is no surprise. I like what they offer so I put up with the freaks. This will only make it better for normal folks to shop without looking at the braided pits and legs walking through food they want to eat.

    What the Left says:

Mackey is a racist hate-speaker!!! Mackey makes Dog the Bounty Hunter look like Zbigniew Brzezinski!

    What the Left means:

    Mackey mentioned tort reform.

Well, you're talking about the lunatic leftists that were stupid enough to vote for a Messiah.

What do you really expect of them?

Reason certainly shouldn't be on the list.

The Democrats, after all, are the role models of reactionary thought and group-emotion-think.

Everyone is a "freak" these days. Let go of the Ward Cleaver mindset. It bears no resemblance to reality today, in 2009.

We have "teabagger freaks", "hippie freaks", "anarchist freaks", so on and so forth. It's just another word to create separation in society to look over our common needs. Let it go.

The Great Divider is back. Hello.

I see reactionary thought everywhere- mostly where people don't want to let go of their preconceived notions. Please do not degrade this thread which is meant to apply an even handed perspective on the true lunacy going on right now.
