Would-be Obama aides must disclose Web posts, Facebook profiles

If you want a job in an Obama administration, be prepared to disclose every blog post or comment you've ever written.
A nine-page questionnaire requires applicants to list--and if possible, provide copies of--all "posts or comments on blogs or other Web sites" they have ever made. Also required are "aliases" or nicknames used on those sites.


Translated into English, this means that President-elect Obama wants to know far more about you than his predecessors did. That requirement would force applicants to disclose information about Facebook and MySpace pages, profiles posted on dating Web sites, and even what was posted on Web sites like CNET and YouTube that allow readers to append comments.

Amusing as this is at first blush, remember that it may mean that the climate now and in the future may be to exclude anyone who has ever taken a personal interest in the nations politics from government.


In other words, common citizens need not apply. We all need to watch this trend with keen interest.

Think of the kind of person that supposedly has an interest in government but has never said anything controversial. I think that's what he is striving to ensure surrounds him- people who do not engage in self-directed thought, who do not express genuine beliefs, and so on.

I do not blame the incoming administration entirely here, I have seen this trend growing for some time.

What I mostly want people here to think about, is the possibility that those of us most interested in actual political thinking and philosophy, may well be excluded from government in any country.

This could presage the evolution of a political caste, people who from school age have are taught to filter every utterance for mass consumption.

If this trend grows, such people could eventually be the only ones allowed into any government position.

It sounds rather creepy to me.

They are probably more concerned with people who spend their free time trolling internet forums or expressing anti-american sentiments. I wouldn't want to hire somebody like that.

Considering his cohorts, Obama would probably consider Anti-American sentiments a big plus.
