Do you think we will be out of Iraq in 16 months (from inauguration)?
Do you think we will be out of Iraq in 16 months (from inauguration)?
Fuck no.........
barring something horrendous happening, yes i believe we will. certainly major military operations will end, but i'm sure will still have a sizeable force there.
theres a huge difference between 40k and 140k troops.
I think Obama will carry out his word. We will still be in Iraq from troops being sanctioned to "protect the embassy" and fight terrorism. But most of the soldiers will be gone by then, as Obama's plan is.
Even if I suspect Obama may alter some of his economic policies because of the rescession, I think he will stick with his plan for Iraq and also Afganistan.
I think he will..... he reitterated that on the eve of elecion day.
Most politicians phase out their main platforms stances after they win the candidacy.
Obama's held firm to those statements.
Are you hoping it lasts until you're 18 and can go bag a couple towelheads?
Staying in either one are huge mistakes for different reasons. Afghanistan because it's unwinnable due to terrain. And Iraq will always fall short of democracy and harmony between religious factions. The moment we leave, the Sunnii will rearm, and fight the Shiite till the sun burns out.
Do you think that if Obama does what you suspect...is that good?
Yes, I think Obama has a good plan for Afganistan and Iraq. I certainly don't have a better one.
By your logic, on Iraq anyway, we can not win, so we might as well leave soon.
The terrain may have stopped the USSR, but that is because they were actually invading the country against people with RPGs... and they moved around in hellis. We are in a different situation.
I think we can get some more sort of stability in Afganistan though. If there will be a problem, I don't think the terrain will cause it.
I'd say within two years, he's not just gonna gather up the troops and run for the hills. Phased withdrawal takes some time.
