Without understanding the particulars, at face value I would say the answer is a resounding YES!

Absa-f'in-lutely! That is VERBOTEN, especially for young kids!

That's a version of what I call "moralism", and I mean, calling a kid to task for what their parents do, that is just WRONG.

THAT is the mentality, that leads into the Hitler-Jugend sphere. That kind of thing is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable.

If I were that kid's dad I'd have that teacher not only FIRED, but also I'd make it my PERSONAL business to see it through all the way to a loss of credentials.

I'm pretty darn sure, that in MOST states, that would be violation of professional ethics and the standards of professional conduct.

She is treading on scared waters. You don’t intimidate children. A little girl came up to me in the office and was holding a magazine with Obama’s picture. She was smiling and she showed it to me. I looked at her, smiled, nodded and walked on. No, I don’t think this teacher should be fired but she should have to publicly apologize to the class for her actions. If she is not willing then she doesn’t need to be teaching children.

Yes, she should be canned ASAP. You just don't do that.

Yeah, if a teacher is giving a student a hard time about something that isn't school or academic related, then they are going into an area where they have no authority. (Unless a child is being abused or something, then they should step in)

I feel like the kid got bullied a bit, that would really upset me if it happened in my son's school. I'd be surprized if something isn't done with this teacher, you have access to any sort of follow-up with this story stinger?

That would be acceptable too. A public apology with explanation AND mea culpa, might, if it were done FAST enough, stop me from being really really upset. And subsequently extracting my pound of flesh, as it were....
