    A Few Thank Yous

America has spoken. Barack Obama has been resoundingly confirmed by the American people as the 44th President of the United States. I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few people. I would like to thank the McCain crowd in AZ for reminding everyone of what is wrong with modern political strategy. I would like to thank John McCain for trying to shut them up during a gracious and moving concession speech. Thank you Sen. Dole for telling your constituents that it is OK to discriminate on the basis of religion or creed. Thank you Sen. Dole's constituents for letting her know that it isn't. I would like to thank Rev. Jesse Jackson for keeping his mouth shut during a historic moment. Most of all I thank the American people for turning out in record numbers to vote their conscience. This can be the beginning of a new age service and a fresh start in global policy. If only a small percent of those who booed the President elect will put aside preconceived dislike for the new Commander in Chief and put the good of America above personal victory, great things may be achieved indeed.

Gee that was touching. Hell I voted my conscience and I took a beating for it, I guess voting for my conscience only counts when I am voting for someone I have no faith in.

You shouldn't take a beating for it. I respect you for doing it. I am proud that so many voted regardless of who they were voting for. Apathy has allowed the state of affairs we are all bemoaning now.

The bolded sentence above gave me a nervous first laugh of the day that de-evolved into breathless laughter and coughing. Thanky you so much.

Sacramento just elected it's first black Mayor yesterday, Former Cavaliers and Suns Point Guard, Kevin Johnson. I watched the Mayoral debates here and this guy is sharp. His opponent Heather Fargo just sat there like an apathetic lump.

I know it was a moving experience for Jackson, but I feel like he cried a little too long. When the first showed him biting his finger with tears streaming I thought, "the man is human" and I sympathized, but after a half hour I was thinking "dude, you can stop now, stop biting your finger so hard you cry, we've seen you already". Fuck, I didn't cry that long when I buried my dog, and I dug the hole myself.

I don't think his emotion was completely manufactured. I am just glad he didn't try to claim the moment for himself or use it to insert his agenda into Obama's. I'm sure he was given the opportunity to do so.
