Even overturning Roe V. Wade would not end abortion on demand. About half the states would certainly still allow it.
While I object to abortion, if a person wants one OK. But, they must pay for it themselves.

The self important attitude really sunk in to become a way of life. Second fiddle will cause evangelicals to get cocky again and we'll see a Moral Majority type organization emerge separate from the Republican party who can no longer support their strict dogma. Plain though...? Maybe we'll see the birth of the George Wallace memorial party.
That about says it. Which, given Obama wins the race, probably would be the beginning of the split.

    Is Obama an evangelical?? :dunno:

Religion has always played a role in the power structure of societies, it is the ether okebrain: that bonds the living of life to the tapestry of mankind's ideas and actions .

Lawsy! I've been hearing that the Religious Right was controlling the Republicans since I started voting in the late 70's! Where did you get 15 years?

Besides your question is like asking when union workers, quasi-socialists, and anti-capitalists will stop dominating the Socialist-Democrat Party.

The religious right seized control of the party in mobilized fashion in the Reagan era. Almost 30 years now.

    They've done a spectacular job, haven't they?

Indeed. I really thought evangelicals would lose all credibility with their base in the late 80's with the shenanigans of Bakker, Swaggert, etc. The construction and demise of Six Flags Over Jesus (Heritageland) I thought signaled the political downfall of the Moral Majority. I was wrong. Now the GOP has gone in the tank. Where will the evangelicals turn now. A split with the party would lose them a viable political vehicle. Building a seperate party or sub-party would take a great deal of time. I can't prognosticate on this one.
