Limbaugh Turns on "Moderate Republicans": The "Looming GOP Debacle"

This is indeed what is happening, and the author here is spot on, looking at Rush Limbaugh's blame on "moderate republicans" for their approach to "moderate democrats". Limbaugh's comments about GOP figures like Weld endorsing Obama are an indicator of not only the state of partisan opinion, but the downslide and eventual tanking of the party, also using a recent historical context.

Ross calls Rush Limbaugh's latest diatribe against moderate Republicans "required reading for anyone seeking to understand one of the most powerful conservative narratives emerging around the looming GOP debacle." It is indeed:
When I saw the Weld thing today I smiled and I fired off a note to all my buddies and I said, "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! How can this be? How can this be? This is the kind of guy that our candidate was supposed to be attracting, and we were supposed to be getting all these moderates from the Democrat Party," and we will, by the way. We're going to get some rank and file, average American Democrats that are going to vote for McCain. But these hoity-toity bourgeoisie...
Well, they're not the bourgeoisie, but... Well, they are in a sense. They're following their own self-interests, so I say fine. They have just admitted that Republican Party "big tent" philosophy didn't work. It was their philosophy; it was their idea. These are the people, once they steered the party to where it is, they are the ones that abandoned it.
It really does feel like the Tories in 1997. They got a thumping of a lifetime and yet they convinced themselves that they lost because they hadn't been hardline enough. And the actual remaining members of parliament, all in super-safe seats, marinated in their own juices and became more insular and blinkered before they lost again. And again. It's over a decade later and only now has the Tory party adjusted back to reality. Mercifully, American parties in the states and legislatures and Congress have more lee-way for finding and grooming new talent than British parliamentary parties. On the other hand, the British Tories never went so far off the cliff as to nominate a Palin.

The so-called "moderates" on both sides of the aisle are responsible for all of our problems. We need to dump the lot of them, but of course that option won't be on the ballot with McBama.

The reasons for the Repub wing's demise are right in front of Limbaugh's fat cigar. He can't even see it.

The reason for the Republicans' lackluster performance is plain.

Republican voters aren't stupid enough to be snookered by socialists claiming to be "moderates". So they stay home when the choices are that bad.

The socialist Republicans say otherwise...the socialist Republicans are the ones that cost the nation the Nancy Pelosi Idiot Speakership these last two years.

When real republican candidates emerge and start talking about saving the republic, then the Republicans will begin recovering support. I haven't seen any in this election cycle.

No, that jerk-off Paul doesn't count, if any of you are thinking of mentioning that waste of time.

So which Republican candidates do you speak of that will save the Republic?

No, that jerk-off Paul doesn't count, if any of you are thinking of mentioning that waste of time.
Being that you say you are a libertarian, what is Paul not libertarian enough on?

We can only hope. Given the current context of a small time professor possibly becoming President, we may have to look for younger, telegenic, smooth talkers. I still think Palin is promising. But the next week is fairly important for her.

What is the matter with you? Why wouldn't you want more then somebody who repeats bumper stickers? The right is losing because instead of intelligent ideas they have decided that winning is the only thing. You guys really never hold your own candidates to any princibles. There are no real conservatives out there. You have replaced them with "Social conservatives" Which is a different animal. The right has spent us in to the hole but you will blame the left. The right has overexposed and underfunded our military. The right is now all for spending billions of more borrowed dollars to bail out companies like Goldman Sachs while this same company plans to give their employees $218,000 bonuses this year. We were being riped off in Iraq by blackwater and Halliburton but the right wouldn't hold hearings because they didn't want the political blow back. So where is their honor. Where is the real patriotism that they profess.

And the best you can hope for is that Palin becomes POTUS? Why? Because she fires up your base. That is because winning trumps real policy to you. She `has claimed to be an "oil expert" Her words. Is she an oil expert? No. She makes a bunch of claims that have been shown to be BS. But you don't care. You just think she is good at tweeking the left. And thats all you care about.

I might vote for a conservative. Let me know when you see one.

    Wow.

There is greenage in your future!

That is exactly EXACTLY my perception too, and the way I feel.

    Today's moderate, is anything BUT!!!

Today's moderate, is entirely DEVOID of political principles. They operate out of EXPEDIENCY, nothing more (well.... maybe a little greed, too).

They're SO brain-dead, they're gonna look askance at the Constitution, in disdain, as if asking "what good is it, anyway?"

And, I have a word for that "social conservative" thing - it's called MORALISM. It's people wantin' to tell other people how they SHOULD and MUST live their lives, and that is anything BUT conservative!!! It reflects itself in stuff like idiotic "why do you hate America?" slogan....

People, I submit, that it is NOT POSSIBLE to honor the flag, and dishonor that Constitution at the same time. If you're doing that, you're an EVIL SCUMBAG and you need to leave my country FAST - and, I'll give you a good swift kick in the rear to help you along your way! okebrain:

Imagine the sheer hypocrisy of these weasels who wear a lapel pin as a badge of honor, and then DISHONOR themselves AND their ancestors, by being a brain-dead doofus about the Constitution of the United States.

These people dishonor the flag every time they wear the pin!!! Oh my God.... ex-post facto laws, summary deprival of human rights WITHOUT habeas corpus, torture, wiretaps, lyin' six ways from Sunday.....

And I mean, those scumbag Neo-Cons actually have well-meaning Americans QUESTIONING this stuff? Well, is torture okay? What good is the Constitution anyway? Who cares about wiretaps if you're not doing anything wrong? Aiee.....

And I mean, this is EXACTLY the cancer I've been pointing to for EIGHT YEARS now, and I'm very VERY glad that other people are seein' it too.

So, like, if it were a DEM saying all this, these numbskull Neo-Nitwits would ignore the message on the basis that the messenger doesn't see eye to eye with them POLITICALLY (gasp)... .I mean, can you imagine the STUPIDITY of such a thing???

But I, am not a DEM. Never voted DEM, not once.

    So far.

This election may be a first. I want the Neo-Scum GONE, NOW, and I'll do whatever's necessary to get that done.

And meanwhile, I have NO IDEA what we can do about that brain-dead mass in the center, the Mushy Middle, as it were, floatin' around like a jellyfish in a sea of human ignorance and arrogance.

Well, tell you what - I really do think, that the Republican Party, is in serious danger of TOTAL DEMISE right now. All the REAL conservatives, are looking elsewhere - Chuck Baldwin, Ron Paul, you know.... even a few going over to Nader, "just because". And, if the Neo-Pond-Scum refuses to let go of the party, OR, if the party itself can't do a Mea Culpa of the first magnitude, then it's quite likely that the REAL conservatives will come back as "something else" - it won't be Republican though. It'll be.... the Stars and Stripes party, or whatever....

The Republican name has been tained forever. Just the usual financial shennanigans a la Garfield and all the others, wouldn't have earned Bushie a place in hell. But, I think the torture and the wiretaps and snatching people off the streets, that mighta done it. And then, you know, we get the bailout thing as a little FRINGE BENEFIT to all that.....

    :dunno:

Someone oughta take a CAREFUL look at how these Neo-Scumbags managed to hijack the Republican Party.

That was a first-rate snow job.

Josef Goebbels would have been proud.

The very fact that Obama may be elected shows you and everybody else that experience and demonstrable competence are no longer primary assets.

The folks I supported for President did not even get close, so I am trying to accept the new political landscape and figure out what my options are. What I want is less important than what is possible. If people could vote for Oprah, she'd beat everyone. If people could vote for Limbaugh, he'd get close. So you must start with someone who is a celebrity. Going through a list of possibles based on who has the greatest philosophical purity and the fewest scandals will yield you exactly nothing. The Republicans are closest to my own poltics, so they are the best chance.
