Hey man, Tick's got a good heart. He just needs to FOCUS all that positive energy. Dude, someone like that, if their belief structure is on the brink of collapse, I want to be there for support and assistance.
Consider: here's what I see in Tick. I see, someone who means well, stands tall against perceived threats, and doesn't take any shit from anyone.
People, I submit, THIS it the type of person we need MORE of, in these United States of America.
The belief system... meh... first of all, it really only needs VERY "minor" adustments, if anything - like I said, just the "target" of the evil eye, could be adjusted a little - but secondly, THIS it really the point....
CONTRAST the attitude of someone like a Tick, with the attitude of some of these weasel politicians. They'll get RIGHT IN YOUR FACE with their anti-American bullshit, and it's almost like they're telling you "I'm in charge and you mean nothing". That's what I really HATE about these Neo's.
Hmm.... let me put it another way - Tick, seems to be a Man of the People. All his concerns about "leftists" and so on, they come from a concern for We the People.
On the other hand, the concern of the Neo's, comes from things like world domination, and PERSONAL PROFIT, and perhaps a Pax Neo-Con-Us.
And, to relate all this to the point of the thread - My "personal" jury isn't yet out, on what kind of a man Obama is.
Tick seems to think he's one of "them" - a no-good leftist communist Neo whatever-other-words-may-apply.....
And, I see something different in the guy. I don't know - it's ENTIRELY possible I'm being fooled, and if that's the case I'll be the first one to stand up and admit it.
BUT, here's what I see: Obama, is a very good "perceiver". He has yet to grow a set of PERSONAL political 'nads - so far, he's kind of on the coat-tails of "everyone else's nads", so to speak, AND, he's got the usual in-party thing going too.
But if I'm not mistaken about Obama, he will grow into the job, if given the opportunity. He may very well end up being someone like a Kennedy. We'll see.
And Tick - that's not to say I trust the guy, right? No way dude, "the price of freedom is eternal vigilance", and I mean, I was asleep in 2000 too, just like a lot of other people. But um.... I feel kinda awake now, know what I mean? It's morning in America - rise and shine!![]()
Here - I'll even amplify that last post a little (just 'cause I'm in a good mood this morning).
It occurs to me, that the vast majority of the American People, have "bought into" the American Dream. I'm talking about the "prosperity through hard work" piece, as distinct from the Red White 'n' Blue rah-rah-for-the-flag piece.
Now, over the span of my lifetime, the reality of that economic dream, the house-with-the-white-picket-fence thing, has been "altered".
When I was born, pretty much "anyone" could attain that dream, simply by buying into it. If you had faith in the system, you could just start working, and then by the time you retired, you wouldn't have to worry. You could travel, have money to enjoy life, whatever.
NOW, a different reality applies. There seem to be two types of people: those who are "in the system" and being used by it, and those who are "on top of the system" and manipulate it. Today, if you simply have faith and start working, the REALITY is, than within ten years, one of these two things is going to happen:
a) you can watch your 401k lose 40% in TWO DAYS, as a result of.... SOME kind of shennanigans in the system - the two parties are blaming each other, but WHICHEVER is the truth (probably both), it's clear that SOMETHING went wrong, yes?
- or -
b) you hit the Enron thing, which is where some dumb-ass idiot who's too stupid to even be a GREEDY FUCK, becomes responsible for the destruction of thousand of people's life savings, and you just happen to be one of 'em.
AND, the further part of that reality, is that my generation will NOT be receiving any Social Security (I have ZERO confidence in that regard), AND, it's doubtful there'll even be enough Medicare to go around.
So basically, the dream looks a little different. "My" reality is, that if you're an employee, and you're trying to climb up the corporate ladder starting at the bottom, you will hit a "glass cieiling" in terms of both income and responsibility, unless you HAPPEN to be acquianted with just the right set of people. And THEN, you will be asked to "play the game", which means, that you will end up SELLING YOUR SOUL in one form or another, in order to be able to feed off the largesse of whatever company it is that's paying the bills.
The only OTHER choice then, is to take a HUGE risk, and go entirely off on your own - meaning, putting your wife and kids and aging mother and everyone else at risk, 'cause suddenly that W-2 income stream stops, and because of that a whole lot of other things stop too. No income? Trying to get a bank loan? Forget it! Shows us your taxes for the last twenty years - oh and, while you're at it, prove you're really you. Oh and, by the time you're done running around collecting all that paperwork, we'll all be dead and long out of business -
See, so, when I see stuff like Pelosi gathering a retinue around her for the specific purpose of justifying a government funded jet, I get ANGRY.
'Cause, man, I have to BUST MY BUTT just to put food on the table right now, and it's not even clear that I'll be able to keep doing THAT!
And then I turn around, and fuckin' George Bush is spending MY tax money arresting political protesters just so HE can have a nice peaceful little convention...... man, that stuff just makes my BLOOD BOIL.
FUCK those Neo-Cons, know what I'm sayin'?
So yeah man, this has definitely CEASED being a partisan thing, for me.
It's now an issue of things like CORRUPTION, and WASTE, and I mean, both parties own that stuff. BOTH of 'em do, and anyone who says otherwise is a liar!
The only solution is to become more personally involved, and, I'm just starting on that, so, I can't tell you what it means yet. But, I already know enough to tell you that voting isn't the answer. It's "not enough".
Nah, unfortunately, those scumbag Weasels need to be WATCHED, even between elections!![]()
Heroin is better.
Um.... same goes for you, Ronin. I've been following your posts for a long time, son. You're another one of those people, that America the Beautiful could use more of!
Look here - if people like you and me (AND Tick) put our heads together, we can figure this thing out.
Dude, trust me, this ain't rocket science. What's needed here, isn't even rocket scientists (although, a few of those wouldn't hurt, I certainly wouldn't kick 'em out of the tent) - what's needed is this:
When you get old and cynical (like me - Ronin I don't know how old you are but you seem to have the cynical part together), you come to a point eventually, where you're faced with a realization, which is the nature of your own shortcomings.
And, at that point, you have a choice. The usual American way, is to either lie down, or become angry. 'Cause if you don't get angry, you're gonna end up lying down. That, is TRUTH. It's human nature.
Now, there are "other" ways - 'cause that choice right there, it's one of those Fox news "we report you decide" things - "framing the debate", as it were. There are OTHER ways of dealing with things, and people come up with all KINDS of interesting models in that regard.
Now, MINE, is very straightforward. I consider that I was BORN - and, I had no choice about that. I was born here, in these United States, in 1959, and I had no choice about that either. So, that makes me a United States citizen, and I DO have a choice about that. That's where my choices begin.
So, I, choose to continue to live here and call this "my" country, and in doing so, I ACCEPT certain things. There is a little "contractual agreement" that takes place, at least in MY mind - I don't know how the government feels about it, and frankly, I REALLY DON'T CARE!
'Cause here's the deal: any government, that's going to foist something on me WITHOUT MY APPROVAL, can FIRST suck my big fat weenie, and THEN go jump right into the nearest lake!
My best understanding, and what I've always been TAUGHT, and TOLD, and ENCOURAGED TO BELIEVE, is that this is a government, "of, by, and for the People". And, unless something has changed that I'm not aware of, those are the rules I play by.
So, when someone comes along and tries to CHANGE those rules, and tries to do it WITHOUT MY APPROVAL (either, behind my back, or through coercion), then they got a problem.
And, this is the deal, yes? If YOU and I, don't hold these weasels accountable that way, then we are LYING DOWN for these scum.
And I mean, these people, have CLEARLY shown me lately, that they do NOT have the best interests of the American People at the very TOP of their list of priorities, and that situation there, is unacceptable.
These people are ELECTED representatives, they have a JOB to do, and that job REQUIRES that the best interest of the American People be at the VERY TOP of their list of priorities - ALWAYS!
And, I mean, they forget that.
So, it is "occasionally" necessary to remind them WHO'S IN CHARGE.
Who's in charge around here?
YOU are! That's who - and, the reality of that equation, is "power in numbers".
And, you are seeing that, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. Look here - in this very thread, we've got Libertarians, Republicans AND Democrats, all agreeing on something. And, if THAT ain't noteworthy, then I'm a monkey's uncle.
So ah, Ronin... a little encouragement and friendly advice - nix the Draino!
Here pal - lemme show you how to use a pitchfork. I spent 22 years studying stick fighting. I'm VERY good with pitchforks!
And um... maybe Michael over there, can show us how to use tar and feathers, like it says in his sig....

While I disagree with your analysis of Tick... I just see too much of the all Muslims are this, all liberals are this, all dems are this type of speech, I totally agree with being wary of who you trust.
It is the responsibility of the citizenry to hold their elected officials responsible and this is equally true for those officials you have voted for and support. People need to vote for who they think will do the best job and then watch them like a hawk and call "bullshit" when they see bullshit. The true danger is blind loyalty towards any cause or person and it has happened on both sides of the aisle and within third parties too.
